Impressive work!
I really think it looks jolly good to see so many Ottoman provinces under your occupation. Now you should grab as many provinces as you possibly can and then you will be the greatest nation in the eastern Med!

Enewald - no Byzantium in this game.

Lord E - The Ottomans will not make peace. They won't even give up 50 ducats and their core on Kastamon.

Ragusa's prestige is such that Ragusa is the greatest nation in the world. Doesn't make hiring good advisors any easier.

phargle - this turkey is proving hard to kill. There are still 51,000 troops in the west. Ragusa can normally only see around 31,000 of those troops. Exploration, Rastar, is not happening as quickly as previously. It took longer to wipe out England's American troops and cost more Ragusan lives than they ought. The American territories have a 200% war score. Getting them will prove more difficult. There goes the core on Sardinia. Two more Doges and neither are worth a candle. Stability at -3 and no cessation of church functions. Oh yes, Morocco decided to declare war. Didn't last very long. Morocco saw sense and offered a white peace. Haven't got a leader with the admin skills to trigger great man reputation.

The 63 year old colonial advisor was replaced by a level 3 land technician. Ragusa has been papal controller for two years by late 1519. Hasn't ot a date for stab -2 though. Where are the Saints for miracles or unco-operative philosopher's when you need them?

Ouch! That must be hurting, particularly when war exhaustion must also be getting quite high with that long Ottoman war :(

Great work on the Ottos, hopefully it doesn't drag on as a stalemate! Know what you mean about getting good advisors, its a toughie. I've managed to pick up 2-3 for Scotland by picking the carcass of recently annexed, and heavily defeated nations (quite a few seem to lay off advisors at the end of a war). But still frustrating to see lots of AI's with Level 5s and 6s being freely created

War with the Ottomans started in 1504 or 1505, so the stalemate's been going some time. last time, before the file corruption, Nova Scotia (and surrounding provinces) was owned by the Scots. This time around it's owned by the Burgundians. Not the same at all.

As for all those revolts:l the Algerians put down the ones in North Africa, the Sienese and Venetians destroy rebels in Italy and the French put down the rebellion in Calais once they had military access. Now there are English troops in Calais. Their fleet is 82 ships - they gained 3 pirate vessels in the Carribean. Time to gather ships and send the English grand fleet to the bottom of the sea. Ragusa has more ships and it's high time they were used.

Siena had the services of two traders - level 6 and level 5 and as a consequence had many merchants placed and have an absolute fortune. They are also very advanced.

I have more pics to post and a proper update will follow. I've been trying to get the wars to end before I do - but I'm going to have to break England and Turkey and tubo-annex. Aragon's allied itself with Castille, so I'd like the other wars ended before fighting Castile. I'll fight a couple more years and then post, come what may.

Couple of features I did not like. Occupying an English colony - but not seizing it, and the English started another settler there. Later, had two 'repel the savages' events and instead of turning the colony Croatian, just added to the English colony. Odd.

The stats of the two Doges, the first one, the game decided to reduce stab, for the first time. What a time to play by the rules!

The second Ghetaldi Doge -there's a current Admiral, General and Cardinal from the family and Church can be hazardous to one's health, it seems.

Poor Guiseppe Sorgo was at his wits end. Here he was in late September 1521. A broken bitter man. He had lead the patriots in a brief stand against Ottoman hegemony. he'd been whipped and humiliated. The Ottomans found whipping a far more corrosive weapon gainst the occupied than masses of dead. The Doge was half a world away, in the Americas.

What had happened between 1515 and 1521? Lithuania annexed Norway. The English-Castillian war ended with England releasing Cornwall and paying 48 ducats. All of France's wars came to an end. White peace was a popular term.

Lithuaniia gained some provinces from Muscovy and have embarked on a war with Qara Koyunlu. Whether Georgia is restored as a result is a matter of conjecture.

Brandenburg, Denmark, Poland and Bavaria decided to fight Mali and Songhai. All that's happened thus far is Brandenburg's colony in Tlazca became Malian and is now Danish.

Naxos now has some troops and is singl-handedly trying to lose Ragusa's positive more than 40 score over peace by sending a single regiment to attack what soon becomes 20000 enemies. The Ottomans don't wipe then out. They know they'll be back for more. Naxos is getting gifts.

In 1520. the great man Bayram boosted Ragusa's stability, reputation and allround niceness. Not that anyone will ally with the world's greatest state. Our great theologian died and was replaced by our ageing colonial governor. It's a role the Doge seems ideally suited for. An event for Hum was settled with religious tolerance. Poor Sorgo. In his youth he'd have spat blood at the orthodox efore making peace with them.

The Doge thinks the best way to win a war in England was to send 5000 cavalry on an mapping expedition. The generals have convinced the Doge to send them over to England. The Ghetaldi Cardinal was replaced by another Ragusan Cardinal from Danzig, but control of the Pope has fallen to the Burgundians.

The war in England has 10000 English soldiers fighting 17,000 Ragusans. Ragusan military genius and the fact England is using old troop types are all that give Ragusa the edge. The English have another 16000 in Ireland and 3,000 in the Canaries. For reasons too difficult to fathom, the English grand fleet only has one transport. it doesn't have 82 ships though. Admiral Explorer Cerva caught the fleet unloading a thousand cavalry early in 1519. 25 nglish ships were sunk for the loss of 3 cogs and a galley, which all became English. The 3 cogs soon had the chance to rejoin the Ragusan fleet; two being sunk by their English officers. The core of the English fleet lies in their 42 caravels. The Ragusans only have 8 captured caravels from Aragon and pirates. The massive weight of the fleet's centre is just too unfavourable for Ragusa.

Venice's former Tunisian provinces have revolted. Gabes has already defected back to Tunisia and Gafesba (?) is likely to follow suit soon. This makes Tunisia a three-province vassal-ally of Ragusa.

The dizzy heights of land tech 2 was reached. Eastern Swarm cavalry and Azab infantry are the new default troop types. Only 5 or 6 levels behind the Ottomans and English. Production 1 and workshops is finally within grasp in around two years or so. A little longer with every colony founded or seized. Ragusa has 20 colonies, some are now cities and 18 of those are in the North Americas. 45 provinces in total. Halfway to superpower status. Sorgo likes the thought of Ragusa being a superpower. These days there's not much he likes.

Ragusa's knowledge of the world widens, too. Still don't know Fes, but Sharirhor actually spread to Ragusa. All of the North Atlantic is known to Ragusa. Only 6 provinces of northern and eastern Americas remain to be discovered. Then it'll be expedition time to discover all of North America. Another series of expeditions will be launched to discover west africa.

The first battle with the English, in England set the tone. 4,000 cavalry including 3000 Swarm cavalry attempteda straight forward charge on the English centre. The great commander forgot he wasn't leading an army of knights and retreated losing 1300 cavalry.Spending money on spies to raise revolt in England wasn't a great success. Out of 5, 1 failed and 3 were discovered, two of whom succeeded. The revolt risk is only 7.6%. The four provinces will never revolt at that rate. Thus far the war has cost 9000 dead and there's nothing in the MP.

Some voices in the Councils are arguing for the hiring of mercenaries.Other say that they are too expensive and the army needs to be reduced to reduce costs. The merchants hail the opening of a trade centre in the New World, but lament the fact that Ragusa has no merchants to send. Some, tongue in cheek, suggest Ragusa should move to the New World and found the United States of the Americas.

What do you mean the army suffers attrition? Size 5, supply limit 5 = 0 attrition.

Cherokee annexed their Shawnee vassals in Ohio.

They seem to have that habit...
He may be bitter, but he is focused :)

Sad to say Aldriq but Guiseppe Sorgo is a brokn man. The only thing keeping him going is the desire to make Ragusa a superpower and humble the Ottomans before he dies. 16 or 17 years of Ottoman occupation of Ragusa City can make one a tad vengeful.

I hope you're right Enewald as in 1522, Ragusa hired 11.000 mercenaries. Two things happened.

First the good news about the trade centre was offset by news that Crimea declared war on Cyprus. Naturally, Ragusa defended Cyprus. Crimea was supported by Kazan but not by the Goden Horde. Kazan is safely behind Muscovy.
The other come August, when Azov finally fell to rebels who went off to liberate another fomer province of Crimea was for Aragon, which is, as I am sure you all remember, a OPM, declared war on Ragusa. CAstille decided to honour its alliance with Aragon.

3,00 horse and 3000 infantry were hired and placed under General Girolamo Sorgo to take Aragon out. Now the Doge had left word that Aragon should be made a vassal. I'm sorry to say that Sorgo spent five months sieging the place before decidng to speed up the taking of the last third of Barcelona. On 11 February 1523, Aragon was no more. By which time Castille hasd taken the province of Aragon and was about to take Valencia. The Ragusan and Castillian fleets met off Galicia. A dozen Ragusan galleys headed for the coast and port, forgetting a state of war now existed. They were slaughtered. CAstille's 11 Caravels and 1 Bargue joined them as the other 57 Ragusan ships swarmed all over them. Only 1 caravel was captured. The Ragusan fleet went back north to Calais (maybe Ragusa will become England?).

5000 infantry were hired in Danzig. 5000 old Prussians - don't know why they will not let the young men fight - were picked up and transported to Kent. Just under 2000 rebels were sieging Glamorgan. 13,000 English troops were in Meath waiting to be picked up by England solitary transport ship and ferried into action. Quite why the Irish shipbuilders were building a barque, when flytes were need is unclear. The original plan had been for a large army to turn up in Connaught (part of Castille, now) and drive England's forces in Ireland into the sea and then proceed to mainland England. The Generals on the spot decided against it. [A general did show up with 5000 cavalry and lost half their number against the English in Meath.] One wonders, is regime change on the cards, with a Sorgo openly ruling the Republic?

The English appear to have given up colonizing the Americas only for Ragusa to seize their new colonies. They're trying a place called Little Kazoo. Conquistador Gradic is heading to the northwestern part of the Americas, in severe weather, which lies undiscovered to see if the province is there. This is a risk as no other troops protect the Americas. The Doge left to put down a revolt on Pierto Rico and will then take 3 Castillian colonies. This Doge Ghetaldi doesn't believe he had any Sardinain ancestors or any hatred of Aragon. He does hate England and is prepared to pursue English forces and colonies to the ends of the earth. Engalnd will be reduced to OPM status, even if that means waiting 50 years to down the Ottomans.

Sorgo has finished off the Aragonese and is now heading for Calais.
The province of Sharizhor was the one that spread. The only one that has. Trarza is the Brandenburg colony that Mali took that Denmark took and Mali retook -and Denmark signed a White Peace.

London just will not revolt

Timeline 27 February 1529

The wars with the Ottomans, Wallachs, Crimeans, English and Castillians continue. The Kazan got bored and White Peaced out. They would declare war on Muscovy late in 1528 as a one province minor. Muscovy had been forced to release Yaroslav as an independent country to secure peace wit the Timurids. Novgorod took one provine in 1526. Crimea had Kouban defect to them.

Lithuania helped itself to two of the Golden Horde's provinces. They'd settled wuth the QK by releasing Riga. The QK had retaken a couple of provinces they had earlier lost to the Timurids. The Timurids asked Ragusa for military access. Ragusa agreed. Lithuania also annexed Norway, which as far as Ragusa's diplomats knew had never revolted away. Lithuania annexed the Teutonic Knights.

All of England's provinces bar London fell early in 1525, except London refused to revolt. What is it about capitals that at other times revolt at the drop of a hat suddenly prove so resistant? Since 1504, England had been ruled by Henry VII who had proved less than relaible in charge of armies. He wouldn't stick around after a defeat. He'd died mid 1520s a month after marrying his daughter to Frederick III of Denmark. London still wouldn't revolt despite England being the junior partner. Later Charles 1 came to the throne. Charles I is currently vacationing on the Balaerics. The English fleet stayed in Arguin keeping Ragusa's main transport fleet in Cape Verde. The army took London to 63% sieged. Still no revolt.

Meantime, Castille took all of Aragon and then started on Norh Africa. They've taken most of it. Girona has tried twice to revolt, but the French moved to put down the rebellions. The Bretons moved to land troops on Castille northern shores. Most of the Castillian forces were in North Africa. Ragusan troops landed in Viscaya. The fleet moved to engage Castille's homefleet.

Ragusa did revolt and the Venetians moved to put it down. They then picked af ight with the Mamluks which she lost and ceded Sirit.

Brandenburg ceded Gelre to Portugal and Luneburg to Burgundiy and a couple of provinces to Austria. Pomerania was released as a sovereign state. Brandenburg had gone Protestant. Also Protestant are Saxony and Bohemia. Brandenburg is allied with Catholic Mecklenburg. Go figure!

Mali annexed Songhai after a short personal union. Brandenburg lost both its colonies in Africa. The HRE is Louis XII of France. Sources close to Louis say that he wears a neck tie constatnly, something he started doing just before France annexed Transylvania.

The Ottomas have done nothing. They haven't sent a single peace deal. Mehmet VI died. A regency council ruled until recently until Selim II came of age. Thanks to Ottoman shipbuilding, the blockading fleet in the Sea of Marmara has grown from 18 ships to 46. The Crimeans have chucked in a few vessels. Ragusa's fleets number about 26 Caracks/caravels, 85 galleys and 56 cogs/flytes. A couple of carracks are being built.

Ragusan exploration has mapped all of Africa up to the province before the Horn of Africa. Much of the Atlantic is mapped as is South AMerica Atlantic side, All of the Northern Americas has been mapped except for the West Coast where the northern limit of exploration is Tingit. Ragusan colonies strech across to Sinoloa. Croation colonists habve converted most English colonies. They converted Chipewa but for some reason can't get to Michigan or Sault. The reason given is that a port is not controlled, though Ragus owns colonies from Delaware to Wyandot and three colonial English cities are under Ragusan control. Guadelope, taken from the Castillians is now a city. Bahia was destroyed during fighting to control it. Peranbeau or whatever has not had a colonist sent. Three English colonies in Southern Africa have been siezed and all await a shipload of Croats to convert them.

The Huron are the lead nation in a personal union with the Iroquois.

Ragusan armies stand almost at full strength. The ageing brilliant general Zlataric says he has once more campaign let in him. Ragusa now has 3 200 ducat loans taken out. As 9 can be taken this does not pose a threat. War taxes have been stopped. Pity the same can't be said for the inflation rate, now at 44% and rising. Insults sent to the Congo for some easy money haven't brought a war about. Serbian is no longer an accepted culture. Guess that scrubs forming Serbia.

23 February 1529, Denmark declared war on Castille. Portugal supported Castille. England and France supported Denmark.

Late breaking news...

Peace was really unexpected.
The result was about 60 points better than war score. It was however the deal I wanted once Aragon DoWed Ragusa and Castille backed Aragon.
