Playing a wonderful, challenging, back and forth battle in PVP just now. I really thought I had lost it after his twin Firestarters had stunlocked my BJ and Jager (I'm using Heavy Fire Lance). Managed to get them restarted and survive long enough for my AWS to kill one Firestarter and my Jager to get the other but was sure I had still lost. His mostly unscathed Victor was in the mix and my AWS back armor was gone from earlier missile fire. I expected him to hop over my head and put an AC/20 round into my back and kill me, then mop up my AC mechs.

Instead, he jumps over to the BJ and hits it with a melee and flamer, tearing its torso of and shutting it down again.

I was surprised so I told him what I expected. He said he went for the sure thing instead of maybe missing with the AC/20. I'm sure he probably had a full Fury after losing both Firestarters though.

So my AWS casually moves into the Victor's back arc and I use my own precision strike. All three PPCs into his rear RT, there goes the dreaded AC/20. Hey, this is interesting again!

Too interesting I guess. Next instant, Host has disconnected. For shame. C'mon dude. I was still playing when 2/3rds of my lance was stun-locked. I even congratulated you on it.

If I remembered the guy's callsign I'd post it here as a warning that he might quit on you. (Edit: Don't listen to me. I am dumb and acting out my own darn self. See next couple paragraphs and later post for irony.) Anyway, folks. Don't be that guy. Play like adults. This game doesn't even have a ranking!

Edit: Again, my last para is wrongheaded. Don't name and shame. See below for details.

Could be a connection issue as well as a rage quit.

Nonetheless, I can understand that people don't want to watch half an hour how the rest of their disarmed mechs is mopped up. No one has enough time nowadays.

To quit and search another game before you go to bed is totally understandable. I get your frustration, but hey, you still won...

I hope you get a forum ban if you start naming players.
What? For letting people know not to waste your time playing against someone who will quit instead of let you enjoy the match? But for the possibility of unintentional disconnect, games ought to suspend players that rage quit rather than lose. We were both having fun when it was one-sided in the other direction. I don't have time to waste on childish people. That was probably the only game I've got time for tonight before it's back to work tomorrow. I was perfectly happy to play to a loss. Losing isn't unfun. Aborting mid-game is.

Possible unintentional disconnect, but the timing is pretty convenient. And nah, it ain't a win, because it doesn't count toward the achievements, and he's in a Victor. For all I know he DFAs my head in next round. I don't know how the story ends. That's the frustrating part. Very exciting and interesting up to that point. Then blank screen.

These matches really don't take that long. Don't screw up other people's nights to save yourself 10 minutes. That's pretty rude.

Get a ban for naming players that quite inside a PvP game? What's your rational for thinking that is a bad idea?
  • First off, it might be genuine a connection drop. You don't know the other guy's setup, there are still people out there playing on a literal rusty phone wire
  • Name & Shame leads to flamewars, "You, no you"-style back and forth, and general dickheadery on forums that allow it
  • The whole thing easily blows up into a witch hunt for everybody who doesn't care for the "PvPer code of honour", whatever that's worth
So, general solution in most communities I've seen: everybody who tries this gets knocked down hard, because that's better than the alternative.

Greetings MechWarriors,

A reminder: Please do not name and shame other players.

This is not to say anyone has done it here (they haven't), but it's not cool. So don't do it.
You're more than welcome to vent frustrations about a match in civil, respectful, and positively phrased manner light on crass language, but no name and shaming.

Thank you
Timaeus

You snatched victory from the guys grasp,be happy with that and the knowledge you sent him off in shame from the field..................now stop gloating about it you diminish your achievement. Play more BT and take it out on Liao mechs, thats always a noble choice!

Understood @Thorbimorbi thanks for the explanation and I get the point. A message board is not the place to do it given the "levels of dickheadery" you mention. Although I would say that particular characteristic is lower here than other place.

Good points and you've convinced me. Never been on a game's forum before or even played much PVP. I'm glad I didn't remember the callsign and retract that part of my OP. I'll edit shortly (not to remove the evidence, just indicate my change of mind).

Good thing too because I just got instant karma. Started a 15 mil match and almost immediately had to disconnect because my daughter woke up and started calling for me. I did manage to hastily send a message letting him know what was up, though. All I ask is for decent manners. Anyways, I am properly humbled now that I'm feeling a little less frustration.

Also looks like maybe dropping does count as a forfeit.

Edit: Oh hey mods agree, too. Good. Ok, I learned something today.
