Raedon 7800 - Failed to create Graphics device [solved]

Hi.

I am experiencing problems getting Crusader Kings II to run on my system and am encountering a rather strange error i haven't seen before, i brought the game on steam.

The error message is as follows.

Failed to create graphics device.
This might be because you have more than one screen/graphics card.
You could try writing adapter=1 in the settings.txt file.

My graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

The problem here is that there is no settings.txt folder in the location it is supposed to be Documents/Paradox/Crusader Kings II/wtfnofile, so i decided to disable dual screen and received another error.

Failed to create Graphics device.
Exiting.

I have updated my graphics drivers, Direct X and Microsoft C++ to no avail.

Please help.

Edit. I also downloaded Crusader Kings 2 demo independent of steam and have the exact same errors ....

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload). Also open setup.log, search for "checksum", and paste that line only in here.

Upon further investigation i realized it was not specifically related to crusader kings 2 and was a problem that other software suffered from but not all software on my PC. After uninstalling various windows updates and reinstalling video drivers i opted for a format of my windows partition which seems to have solved the problem.

Leave this up in case anyone else gets this strange problem?.

i am recieving the exact same error, and im just perplexed. i never ever had a problem with CK2 before, and havent really any other problems with software as far as i know.. id rather like to avoid doing a full format of my system, but if that is the remedy, ill guess i have to .

The OP never had it working, so yours is a different issue. Please start a fresh thread with full problem and system details, thanks.
