I'd personally love to see a whole parallel set of infrastructure dedicated to the construction of communications networks. This was the era of the communications revolution, and all nations had to make massive investments (public or privately funded) to constuct the infrastructure, yet in V1 that was hardly recognized.

I'd have it break down into the following levels

Telegraph
Electricity
Telephone
Radio Network

-------------------------------------------------------------

One thing that should be added in Victoria 2 as far as I think is the radio propaganda factor. Countries should be able to establish their radio stations as near to their adversaries land as possible in order to influence their pops against their governments and possibly create rebellions. The radio stations should have a range with respect to the research done in radio technology. For example the first stage could be MW radio tech with which you could only cover an area from UK to Germany, then LW radio tech may allow you to propagate an area from UK to Spain and the third most advanced could be the SW tech which could cover almost half of the world. Also countries could establish their radio stations in their allies' land as well as the land of their vassals.

There was no radio in this timeframe.

Commercial radio was commonplace by the late 1920s, so there would be a short period at the end of the game where it would make sense, though most studies showed that radio propaganda of the type used in WWII had the opposite effect of what it hoped to accomplish - it tended to piss off people and increase resistance rather than weaken it.

Isn't this game supposed to run till ~1920 or so? Could be mistaken...

Victoria:Revolutions runs to 31 Dec 1935, and King has said the game will run to the start of the WWII era, so I am assuming V2 will play from 1 Jan 1836 to 31 Dec 1935 as well

Wow, pretty long game! Good though, it'll give me some time to play in the summer. But it hopefully won't keep me in my house all the time. D:

And wasn't Radio propaganda somewhat successful in Nazi Germany?

Correction - commonplace in the United States and the most wealthiest areas of Europe, maybe. And it was still quite expensive for average customers(hence for instance the german Volksempfänger program and the soviet public transmitters system). All in all, adding a whole new feature that could be used only in the last 5(maybe 10) % of the game timeframe, only by the most advanced majors, and only if there is some real effort to organize propaganda done by the state, seems not a very good idea to me. Even in HoI2 that takes place in the golden age of radio propaganda there is NO representation of it at all(or in a very, very abstracted way).

On the other hand I must say that radio propaganda can be used both ways, and when it probably was quite unsuccessfull to weaken enemy's resolve, I think it was a great factor of national unity during WWII. But again this has nothing to do with Victoria.

Events that can fire late in the game during elections that raises the consciousness of an ideology, i.e. [Ideology] Radio Station backs the [party name]'s election campaign. And maybe a couple events of american radio evangelism, and the big radio events, birth of the beeb and that sort of thing.

And minor quibble, not just the great powers had the radio, here in dunedin we've got the fifth oldest radio station in the world thats older than be bbc you know and while i may wish that we had dominated the world at the turn of the last century, sadly this was not the course and im sure that if a city which isnt either a capital or major city on the outskirts of the british empire had a number of established radio stations by the mid twenties then surely a damn lot of the rest of the world must of too. Not just the Great Powers.

But my on topic point being this, Radio and Radio related things ought to be events, not no complicated system.

I believe it was fairly influential in Hitler getting elected in Germany, same with Roosevelt. I have never examined any studies of it's efficacy during the war however.

Well, if the goal is to just have the state have some influence on politics, you could just have a newspaper event that has a chance of popping up during elections or something with the option to lean on the press to...encourage them to play nice.

While radio was a later part of the game, newspapers seem to be rather common and influential enough. Not sure how uncivilized countries would be handled though... Did many even have a newspaper?

At most I think radio should give certain bonuses. It wasn't common until nearly the end of the game, so to make it do anything more seems a waste to me. Additionally the invention of television happened at almost the same time (as voice over radio), the only reason radio took off like it did was because the militaries of the world saw immediate military application for it and so they invested money. If Paradox is going to make radio into something big, they need to create the capacity that television could be that as well, which again, is frankly not worth the time.
