Radio Free EUtopia....

That's the name being used to identify the pirate-radio signal being broadcast into Eutopia from just beyond Eutopia's territorial waters.

Radio Free EUTopia is something that, despite the best attempts (so far) by the government to jam or neutralize, continues to be available to citizens on the extreme ends of the public radio band.

But the identities of the broadcast's originator, and any of those speaking on it, are unknown !

What radical message will be broadcast this week?

OOC: Rules for this thread: This thread is semi-private. Everything you read in this thread is public and available to all characters. However, just like the National Assembly thread, posting rights are restricted.

Here are the specifics:

1)ALL posts here are considered ANONYMOUS by players. Do not blame or attribute any statement to any specific character. If someone is silly enough to say something that only their character would know, then that's a different story, feel free to speculate all you want. ;)

2) DO NOT POST HERE, unless you have GM permission. The mysterious presence running the pirate broadcast will grant air time to those that call a broadcast number, if they see fit. This means PM me and make a case for getting access rights.

3) WATCH THIS SPACE: Cuz we might need to add or change rules, depending on how well this experiment works.

Have fun. :)

Radio Free Eutopia now begins its broadcast day.

Good morning Eutopians.

Welcome to another day of back-breaking labor in a society that has failed you. But we're not here to preach revolution. It's your own damned fault. Like they say, the people get the government they deserve.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, that doesn't work with the music scene, so will be unnecessarily be rewarding you with some classic Anglo rock and roll from the UK and US, and unnessarily punishing you with some crappy teen pop-music, also from the UK and the US. And once we get tired of that we'll play you the BBC news, but overdubbed to sounds as if it's being read by the Queen Mum on helium, and with a bad case of Tourette's syndrome.

And in between we'll be airing some voices people in your country have been working hard to silence.

Enjoy!

(Music queues up to the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction")

I can’t get no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction . . . .

Well now, wage slaves, thought slaves, solider slaves, and all the other slaves of Eutopia, let's talk about the biggest story, and the biggest slave, of all! The death of Morgan!

Ask yourselves, if you dare to think, who stood to gain? Why didn't the Medical Examiner get a look at the body? Why did MILE agents spirit the corpse away?

Was there even a corpse?

Let's all raise a toast to the old bastard, and hope someone drove a stake through his heart!

And after this song, I'll name the murderer!

God save the Queen, her fascist regime
It made you a moron, a potential H bomb !

God save the Queen, she ain't no human being
there is no future . . . .

Oh what a shame, we seem to have dropped our last DJ. That's the problem with pirate radio, good help is hard to find. We'll be taking community announcements as we go, screening them to make sure they are in fact appropriate for your ears and our purposes: telling you the truth that the government doesn't want you to hear.

What exactly did happen to Witney VonVaam?

Who is steeling donated organs, blood, and tissue from our new organ banks?

Doesn't it seem like an awful lot of important people are dying lately?

Is there a connection?

Isn't there one????

I'll let you ruminate on that cud for a while, while we go to our next musical selection. If you're still here when we come back, and if you're a poor Latino who used to work in fishing or tobacco I'd have to say I don't like your survival odds, we'll introduce a special guest with some very interesting things to say about some of our "respected" former leaders.

(Music cues up)

"I woke up in a Soho door way, a policeman knew my name,
he said you can go sleep at home tonight if you can get up and walk away.

I staggered back to the underground, where the breeze blew back my hair.
I remember throwing punches around ....."

I stretched back and I hiccupped
And looked back on my busy day
Eleven hours SCREEECH

The sound of a microphone being hammered over someone's head. Muttered curses in the background, something about damned facists.

. . . not gone by a long shot, you hack. Yes, we're back, back to name the man who did such a great service for Eutopia! Back to play . . . name the murderer!

So, who killed Morgan? It's easy. Who stood to gain from destroying the center and leaving a weak group of facists and monarchists as their only opponent?

Who smashed in his head with a hammer and cut his heart out with a sickle?

That's right! Comrade Josephus, Eutopia's own answer to Trotsky. There's a skull that needs an icepick, right? He kills Morgan, destroys the center, and leaves the Queen-lovers to pick up the mess.

So let's raise a bloody mary to the man who leaves you poor bastards to choose from Stalin or Stalin! Now let's spin some more wax. . . or tape . . . or bits . . . or voice trails off as music comes up:

London calling to the faraway towns
Now that war is declared-and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, all you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look at us
All that phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Meltdown expected and the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
London is drowning, and I live by the river

And now we resume our evening broadcast.

Interesting talk out there among the politicans, kind of like debating the virtues of a number 8 rounded-screw, versus a number 16 flat head screw, versus a number 12 hexagonal.

The differences are minute.
They're really just the same sort of tools.
And someone's gonna get screwed.

And speaking of political season, did any of you image that Old Man Morgan would NOT be running for office this time of year. Maybe, me thinks, the minister did protest too much about not wanting to run, if I can paraphrase the Bard, but to see him completely out the picture caught us by surprise, which is a switch.

He seems to have been a rather tortured sole, having made a historical impact that many would find enough, as the first Moderate Party member of the old Parliament, giving that group a huge boost in credibility, if not conscience or anything besides blistering pragmatic ends-justifies-the-means philosophy, and making a crusade out of the WTO and a career out of the MDIA. But he never could win the presidency. Did that haunt him to his grave?

Maybe, maybe not. But speaking of haunting, we've got a few skeletons in the closet we'll be dragging out soon. As promised, it's time to make a few Gulp&Blow burgers out of some of Eutopia's sacred cows.

But first, let's open the phone lines (OOC: not to everyone, just a pre-approved caller). We've got someone who really, really, really wants to say something.

Go ahead caller....

Hey here's da G. you know I want to say one thing dude, it's just like this: I was on ESRP rally ya know, and thay said , I quote them

We are not a Communist Party. We certainly are not Stalinists. We may be aware of the theoretical teachings of Marx and Lenin but our view is to apply these teachings within the framework of a democratic/ capitalist society.

But what did they said in their manifesto?

The framework of The Eutopian Socialist Reform Party's values and policies are constructed on a framework of socialist-democratic, and marxist-leninist ideals

I mean dude who they think they are? They think everyone is as stupid as they are? Communistic theory says that there won't be any democracy, all of the power to goverment, before they will give everything to everyone that's what they say, ok that's all I wanted to say. See ya man.

Well that was certainly interesting. Seems we've got another caller on the line. Speak freely, caller, in the only forum where you still can...

(The phone clicks for a moment and connects to the caller....)

Thank you.

First of all, I'd like to request a song, if I might. I'd like to hear Pink Floyd's "Dogs."

*
You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed

There's been a lot of nonsense on the air lately about communism. Tell me friends, where are the communists among us?

And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Hmm. Intersting lyrics. Is this what we want for Eutopia, ladies and gentlemen? A dog-eat-dog world. "Screw everyone else, I'm in it for myself."
This is what the capitalist supporters want. They want to stab you in the back.

You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.

That's right. Work hard, slave hard for those who exploit your labour. And what do you have in the end? All you will be is a sad old man.

And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've sown
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone

A long synth solo begins.

Yes, dear friends. These people want nothing other than to exploit you. They confuse you with their words. They condemn all those who oppose this exploitive form of labour as "communists" knowing that those words will scare you. They make you think that you, all of you, can benefit from this system. What they don't tell you is that the only ones who benefit are those who own the means of production. They tease you with work benefits and stock-sharing and holidays. But these are merely gristle in your dog food. They know that they can only profit from the system as long as you are kept down; believing that you enjoy the fruits of your labour.

And it's too late to loose the weight you used to need to throw around
So have a good drown, as you go down alone
Dragged down by the stone.

More solos, this time the sound of a dog barking in the background can be heard.

That's right, my friends. You in the coal mine, ask yourself. What have you gained after all these years? Bad lungs, a bad back and a broken home. And, maybe, just maybe, after you turn 70 you can retire; sick, battered and bruised. Is this what you want?
Are you confused?

I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused
Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used

Just being used. You got that right.

Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake of this creeping malaise
If I don't stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Deaf, dumb, and blind, you just keep on pretending
That everyone's expendable and no-one had a real friend
And it seems to you the thing to do would be to isolate the winner
And you believe at heart, everyone's a killer.

Who was born in a house full of pain
Who was trained not to spit in the fan
Who was told what to do by the man
Who was broken by trained personnel
Who was fitted with collar and chain
Who was given a seat in the stand
Who was breaking away from the pack
Who was only a stranger at home
Who was ground down in the end
Who was found dead on the phone

Friends. Don't believe the liars, the fascist propagandists who fear the alternative. Only they will suffer. Not you. You, the worker, has to stand up for your rights. You are being exploited.

In the next few months, exciting things are about to happen. Pay attention, prick up your ears. The future is now.

Thank you.

(Banjo music plays in the background)

And that's all for today's round of "Dueling Phone Calls", please join us again the next time we let to callers fight it out while the DJs step out to use the can. Y'all come back now, hear?

(Banjo music ends)

Actually this little tete-a-tete brings us to an interesting riddle:

When is a Socialist not a Socialist?

Do you know?

(Game show music plays, followed by a loud gong.)

Time's up!

When he's Barry Garcia!

That's right, you know him as that wacky wonderful professional protester of all things conservative, centrist, center-right, moderate left, or otherwise not out on the loony left fringe. Didn't that ever seem a little, I dunno, TOO convenient?

We know some people must have had their doubts as he was never embraced by the political activists and parties he championed. Ingratitude? More likely it was distrust.

Yes, Barry Garcia was in fact a fraud, but maybe that's a little too harsh? Why don't we ask him what he thinks?

Please welcome our in studio guest: Barry Garcia!

(Sound effects of clapping and applause)

DJ: Welcome Barry, please have a seat. Watch the manifesto.

BG: Hi there.

DJ: Well Barry, we're glad to have you here on our show. Seems you have a colorful little secret, and by colorful I don't mean red.

BG: No, not at all. I tried my best but when I nearly blew my cover on national TV I knew it was time to get out. Luckily, after winning the jackpot on "Knowledge is Wealth" I could write my own ending to this sordid little tale.

DJ: So Barry, mind if I still call you Barry? What exactly are you doing HERE? At this undisclosed location (Sorry government agents, no hints!) on our radio station?

BG: Well, let's just say the truth needs to be told about the Eutopian Government, and I'm in a fine place to tell it now, free of financial worry or any previous entangling loyalties. I was betrayed and cut loose by a government I risked my life for, and now it's payback-time.

DJ:(With heavy sarcasm) WHAT? Betrayed and cut loose by the government after loyal service? Say it isn't so? I'll bet none of our listeners know what THAT is like...

BG: All true, all true.

DJ: Well Barry, let's take a break. We've got a few observations to make about the elections, and what better time than now, when the polls are closed and the results are being cooked. I mean "counted", sorry, a little slip of the tongue.

We'll be back after this......

(Led Zeppelin guitar riffs rise up and play while the DJ takes a break)

And you thought we had gone away! For shame!

We're back with Barry Garcia, who's going to tell us more about what REALLY went on in government.

Please welcome our in studio guest: Barry Garcia!

(Sound effects of clapping and applause)

DJ: Welcome back Barry, now, where we we? Oh yes, you were about to spill all your beans. Not very loyal for a former government snoop, are we?

BG: (bristling a bit) Well, the government wasn't exactly very loyal to me, were they?

DJ: Were they?

BG: Hell no! I was a former SAW agent that Charles Morgan hired for some special domestic intelligence ops. I assumed it was all sanctioned by the higher ups, but just one of those off-the-books missions. I mean, what business does the MDIA have in domestic intelligence? Spying on our own people? I assumed it was some sort of international terrorist threat he was coordinating along with the President and the MILE?

DJ: Really? Interesting, so the MILE and the President were in on this? Who was that? Lundgren? O'Floinn? Langley? IKK?

BG: None of them, as far as I know, knew about it, only Morgan. But of course, I didn't know that until later.

DJ: What do you mean by later?

BG: I mean when Morgan decides to fly the coop and abandon the MDIA role. I went and reported to Jusleau, now there's a creepy bugger for you, but I went and reported and was summarily dismissed, but it's worse than that.

Jusleau's men told me that there was no ministry record of my employment, that it was unsanctioned, that what I was doing was illegal and they even roughed me up a bit and threatened to turn me over to the MILE as some sort of con artist or common criminal!

I was stunned! Unemployed! Without any acknowledgement of my work or any security!

If I hadn't been able to win on that game show who knows what would have happened to me in Eutopia. I might have actually ended up like that hippy character I played to subvert the leftist groups!

DJ: Well it's certainly a good thing that we are outside of Eutopia's territorial waters, I'd hate to think of what would happen to you if you went back.

BG: So do I! But luckily I can live for some time of my prize money and I'm happy to do it in one of the many countries without an extradition treaty to Eutopia.

DJ:So, and forgive me if I sound disappointed, but is that all there is? Bad for you, no question, but for the people of EUtopia simple a wrongful termination? Or it there anything else you can tell us?

BG: Of all sorts of things? There is a network of bugs hidden back in the ventilation system of the ESRP HQ. Cool little robotic thing I was able to place by accessing the shafts from their bathroom. All of their conversations for, I guess years, have been recorded and transferred to a little recording station for New Lancaster Recording music. I guess those tapes are still there somewhere.

And there's more than the government spying on private citizens, did you know that the MILE's office LOST all of their archives on terrorist operations in EUtopia? Disappeared right out of the office. The SAW still maintains their own secret records, though they would deny they exist if asked for them, but the MILE's got little more than some empty manilla folders and paper clips. Happened right before Lundgren died.

You'd be surprised the secrets that have been kept from you.

DJ: Apparently so. But there must surely be more secrets yet to come.

BG: I'd bet all my new found wealth on it!

DJ: Well I'm so glad that betrayal by the government and an unearned influx of money have finally set you free. God have pity on your soul.

BG: What? Hey! (his mic goes dead but he can be heard protesting off the DJ's mic)

DJ: Don't get me wrong listeners, we're happy to expose the government for all of its little secrets, but that doesn't mean we like snitches, especially people who'd be out there doing the same thing if not for a cruel twist of fate.

Now then, if spying weren't enough, it appears your government has now taken to arresting political opponents. The feeble old Judge Anton was drug out of the High Court, from a case HE himself filed about wrongful termination, by the MILE's goons. I hope for his sake that its only his job that gets terminated!

What will it take for you all to accept that the government does represent you? It doesn't listen and it doesn't care. It only serves the special interests of a few powerful political cliques.

Demand a change. You derserve it. You'll never be free while a slave of someone else.

And now, getting back to that twist of fate....

(music cues up strains of Bob Dylan)

All right, and we are back with a special dedication and message for the Big Pig, the Top Cop, the Chief Thug and the man that holds the SAW, Minister Hawkton J. Tilly, Esquire, from an admirer. And the message is: "You'd better have someone else start your car in the morning!"

Here at Radio Free Eutopia, we have a policy: three songs in a row after every death threat! How 'bout some Bob Marley?

I shot the sheriff,
but I didn't shoot the deputy...."

But unfortunately this message was only heard by the station operator, who quite sensibly broadcasts on a delay, never live, and yanked this before it went out over the airwaves.

"Good way to win their hearts and minds," the operator grumbled (ooc: not over the airwaves, so this is all private info, but for the sake of the game I thought the players, not characters, might want this explanation) , "by issuing death threats! No, we won't be giving them any justifiable grounds for finding us and shutting us down. We couldn't justify that, even under their new Charter of Rights."

He punched up some numbers.

"Okay, operator access to caller code named Zhivago (OOC: Voshkod) is hereby suspended until he develops some better judgement. His last broadcast was counterproductive to the cause."

He punched some more buttons.

"Now then, maybe a little bit of The Who?"

Kaboom!....

That sound you hear is the exploding of Eutopian political order, and we here at Radio Free Eutopia are standing around in our hard hats amidst the debris wondering what on earth to make of it.

It's rare when we get scooped, but a quick scan of the local fishwrap, er, I'm sorry, of the Eutopian Worker lays it out so nicely we have to take notice.

President Vasco IKK, gone.
The Left-o-rama convention, gone.
And didn't I read something about a boat full of weapons that the coast guard found?

Seems like someone is upping the stakes in the battle for Eutopian self-determination. But self-determination for whom?

For Latins? They seem ready to fight for themselves, especially if the government backs down from their promises of a New Federalism.

For the poor oppressed workers? Seems like blowing up the left's leaders wouldn't do a lot to help that effort...unless someone's trying to clear out the deadwood for a new movement.

For the right wing, tired of lefty propaganda? Let's give them some credit, folks, they couldn't be that dense, could they? Maybe someone's trying to set up the right, and discredit it? Although if Talbott keeps going to American raves, and Haynes ends up in jail again, the right won't need much more help, will it?

What about the Topa? Can they really have forgotten the government's plot to wipe them out? Maybe they are trying to build their own independent security force?

What about the rest of the WET? Have they decided is enough is enough and are taking this "autonomy" thing a little too seriously?

Or maybe we're just talking about good old fashioned anarchists, out for a good time?

All of the sudden the mystery of "who could possibly have done this and why?" has ballooned into "which one of many possible groups did in fact do this, and why didn't any of the others?"

Kaboom!....

It looks like Eutopia's ready to blow up, and everyone's got a hand on the button and a finger on the trigger! Unrest is getting big and the danger's getting bigger!

But fear not, Eutopians! If your island tips off its teetering edge into full conflict, there are plenty of new homes out there, just waiting to take you in. Safety and security are not novel concepts, they should be basic human rights. If you can't find that in Eutopia, perhaps you should start looking abroad?

And speaking of which, here's a little classic with lot's of dust on it....

(music cues)

"I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know where I'm a gonna go
when the volcano blows!"
