Wait, are visibility modifiers applied multiplicatively to each other? I'd been assuming that they stacked additively up to now, though I'm not sure I ever actually checked this specific situation where two modifiers were applied to the ship design. In fact, snorkel-sub engine might be the only combination of equipment that actually does that, now that I think about it. Armor and capital ship batteries add a value to the base visibility, rather than applying a modifier.

Oops you are right, they stack additively (https://hoi4.paradoxwikis.com/Variant#Statistics).

Since I am always suspicious of multiplicative versus additive modifiers in HOI4, would this change how we view snorkel versus traits like Silent Hunter?
I only have a theoretical understanding of the two modifiers but from what I can tell, they can not reach such extreme values where the difference between multiplication and summation becomes very pronounced. The respectively most extreme stacking from what i can tell:

(1 + electric_torpedo + convoy_interdiction_ti + wolfpacks) * (1 + silent_hunter) = .55 * .85 = 46.8%

(1 + raiding_fleet_naval_manufacturer + sub_ship_engine_4 + ship_sub_snorkel_2 + USA_unrestricted_submarine_warfare) * (1 + water_fjords) * (1 + concealment_expert) = .45 * .8 * .8 = 28.8%

When looking just at the effective torpedo reveal chance, the contributions of Silent Hunter and Snorkel are still roughly equal even in this extreme scenario (w/o Silent Hunter: 55% * 28.8% = 15.8%; w/o Snorkel: 41.6% * 46.8% = 19.5%).

I think they should take out a torpedo slot and replace it with radar slot. None of the historical designs have full torpedos but no submarine ever has had to choose between a snorkel and a radar.
