I'm playing Venice - and I want to conquer as much of the world as I can (official goal).

Now, I've been thinking - how much badboy have I accumulated? It's 1515, and since I'm about to annex that rebbelious re-emerged wurtemberg, and also will annex genoa as soon as corsica falls, I thought it might be interesting to know.

Open the savegame. 'Hmmm, Turkey, France, England, all badboy over 10. Turkey even with 22... let's take a look at Venice.'

It was 32.

And I still have two nations to annex!

So now I am thinking - anyone else have experience with creating this much BB within the first 30 years? I know I'll spend the rest of the IGC in BB wars probably (have had some already), and I want to resort to the 'give up a few provinces' trick as little as possible.

Ermmm well yes in this game the Turk annexed the whole mameluks in the first 3 years or so. I'm also playing with balkanisation, and they gobbled up a bit of serbia, ragusa, some hungary, and moldavia. Wallachia (the turkish vassal) also grabbed 2 provinces from the hungarians.

The Turks are a steamroller (they also have 22 BB, as I mentioned - that's pretty impressive for a computer player in 27 years), and I don't want to be flat.

Also, almost no-one wishes to ally with me anymore, of course. Only Serbia (who now own Tyrol), so I'm casting about my web - who to invite?

I get the idea I will be shelling out tons of money in goodwill payments to Savoy, France, and the Turks. And maybe Papal states, Naples, etc.

Austria is no problem. I am almost in a position to annex them.

32 BB pts in 25 years is a lot! What have you done!? :)

In case you didn´t know, here´s a little "price list" (it only applies to european countries. Non european countries are pretty much "for free"):

Dow No Casus Belli same religion 4 pts
Dow Casus Belli same religion 1 pts
Dow No Casus Belli other religion 1 pts
Dow Casus Belli other religion 0 pts

Annex 1-3 provinces same religion 1 pts
Annex 1-3 provinces other religion 0 pts

Complete annex same religion 5 pts + 1 pts/province
Complete annex other religion 1 pts/province

Diplomatic annex 1 pts/province

By the way, is this list correct? I did some testing a couple of weeks ago and this is pretty much what I found out.

What did I do?

Take two Papal States provinces (had to give one back)
Take 5 Austrian provinces
Annex Tuscany
Annex Bavaria
Annex Wurtemburg
Annex Baden

And of course, the required DoWs and multiple wars etc.

Of course, Wurtemburg declared independance again (couldn't handle the rebels during the war, and so I'll probably annex it and Genoa in the upcoming 5 years.

The Austrian presence is now limited to

Austria - Ostmarch - Pressburg - Wurtemburg - Lorraine - Champagne - One more French province (forget the name)

(And maybe Pressburg's not right and I'm confused with a different province.

I'd give y'all a screenshot but I have no utility for it. Point me there?

I´ve only played Venice once and I can´t remember what CB´s they start the game with, but I can´t believe they have CB´s against all the states mentioned in your previous post.
I believe that annexing Bohemia alone would have cost you 10 pts (if you did it in one war). (5 pts annex penalty because you´re both catholics and 1 pts/Bohemian province (there are 5 provinces, right?)). If you did not have a CB on Bohemia it´s 4 more pts.

Well yeah, I do have a BB of 13 I think - but is that a barrier to getting to vassalisation option?

I have been in this 'positive state' of affair with Venice almost from the get-go of the game - and around that time my BB was not nearly this high. (Of course, I was a lot smaller than Venice then)

Your BB rating will drop by 1 every 4 years. There is no other way to reduce it (unless you´re not ready to give up territory).

I donno. Most ppl say it decreases your BB rating but I´ve never tried. Giving up territory because your rating is high is rediculous. :)

Please explain!

If you give your enemy a province during a peace treaty your BB should drop by 1-2 points per province. (I am guessing that is the number cuz im not sure).
Anyways, this is certainly NOT worth the effort of reducing your BB by giving away land that you won after hard fighting, unless you are deep into a BB war and everybody fighting you (a familiar situation to me :D ) and you have to give a provinc eto one of your fiersome enemies.

Since you've already been into the game file you could always cheat a little by adjusting your BB rating to the same level as Turkey, then the next time they declare war anywhere the combined armed forces of the world would fall on them instead.

Of course you might never be able to look yourself in the eye again. You would need to buy absolution from the Pope by sending at least 1000 ducats to the Papal States .... unless of course you have already annexed the PS.

Owl - I almost annexed them, indeed. Their allies were wreaking a little too much havoc, though, and while I could handle them, the hungarian/bohemian/austrian alliance chose that moment to DoW me - so I left the papal states with 1 province.

I won't hack my BB rating down though - if I were a European ruler at that time, I would be outraged at Venice's actions as well.

(But maybe I'll just hack Turkey's up to match mine - after all, those heathens are doing WAY too well, us nice goody catholic europeans should punish them.

Of course, the reformation HAS just happened.... am I tempted? Should I be? I already get colonists from the shipyard, and the world hates me anyways.... ;) Time for religious revolution?

You just have to hope Turkey annexes someone (Moldavia and Georgia, maybe, or something like that) so they overtake you. Then wait for everyone to beat themselves to death against Turkey.

I had just this problem in a recent game; France, Russia AND Turkey were all quiescent, so I was the evil megalomaniac of the world with a badboy of 11. Nobody else's was above 1.
