Sorry just needed to release some steam. The AI just did a number on me.

Playing as Moscovy and Allied with Denmark. Both Norway and Sweden had gained independence earlier (almost at the start of the game actually). Sweden had taken a chunk of Denmark just as they did real life the bastards. Of course Denmark wanted to get it back so they declared war and called me.

Being the nice guy that I am (and wanting a piece of Finland) i said yes. War lasted 4 years and both Denmark, Sweden and I was Down to 0 Manpower. I had conquered most of Sweden and almost had enough score to demand seperate Peace and claim 3 provinces.

BANG Denmark accepted Peace without claiming anything for themselves or me (leader could demand for me) BUT giving Norway back some of their provinces from Sweden they had previously lost.

Norway wasnt even part of the war.....grrrr

Now I am handicapped for years while getting Manpower back and completely at the mercy of Lithuania or Ottoman should they choose to press their claims and I have absolutely nothing to show for it.

I have sometimes gotten provinces from an ally in a war but man its rare. Perhaps you need a claim for it to take Allies into consideration when dictating Peaceterms

You don't join wars only to get provinces. Think on it from the light side. You contributed to status quo in Scandinavia, and that is in your long term interest.

There's no perhaps about it. The ai won't give you a province in a peace deal unless you have a core or claim on it. Presumably under the assumption that if you don't claim it you don't want it, can't core it, etc.

More importantly, this is a war to reinstate a PU. Why would you give away provinces to a foreign power from a nation you were planning to integrate?

Eh, you still weakened an enemy. Worse things have happened.

And in these kinda wars, you should never rely on trying to take land for yourself, and if you do you need to aim low. Getting the WS for three provinces as a junior partner in a war is a tall order.

The AI gets greedy and lets itself get peaced out when it should peace at strength. Learn from its mistakes.

Fighting an offensive war? Peace out when you run out of manpower in case they muster a counter attack (or your junior partner surrenders).
Defending? Fight forever, the AI will lose will while your score ticks higher

Sounds to me like you got greedy in a war you didn't start.

Next time, just grab one province (or two at the most) and be happy you got something.
