Really like the new material. But quill talks so fast and uncoordinated, that it really got on my nerves. Now i know again, why i didn't like his videos back in the days:D but all in all a very good gameplay video. The battleplanner looks great!

Ok, so warfare means, you just look at the screen and do nothing. Look at Quill's video. He had nothing to do while fighting Yugoslavia. He drew a few lines, clicked a button and watched what happend. Wow... that's exactly what I was afraid of... :(

Make warfare meaningful, Paradox! Pleeeeaaase!... It's a game about world WAR 2 and the whole "war"-part is completely meaningless as it seems.

I love HoI 2, I love HoI 3, I love EU 4, I love EU 3, I love CK 2... HoI 4 looks great (still don't like sprites though), but the actual game behind it, just isn't there. :(

THIS. So much this! God damn it people you still and always will have direct control of your divisions, jesus. :D

The battleplaner is just a better way to automate the war. Instead of just telling the AI "Take over the east theatre, kthxbai" you instead say "Do this.. and this.. and this, just how I tell you, I don't want to order every single division, but please still move in this fashion, attack that first, k thanks"

And considering the game was on 3x - 4x speed Quill did not have the time to micro anything or draw very special plans.

I love that advanced peace/diplomacy mechanics are in, including partitioning. Playing the USSR and racing the Allies to Berlin (and vice versa) is even more meaningful now!

Also, on battle plans, he was playing as Italy, fighting Yugoslavia. I think far more micro-management is required when going up against more worthy foes (France, Soviet Union, etc.). In HOI3, you pretty much couldn't win in the east without encircling Soviet divisions.

Just because Quill decided to do the fighting like that doesn't neccessarily mean you will be forced to.

Well, finally we were able to see a bit of gameplay and i am happy to see there is a working game. Considering the time they will take to polish it i am quite hopeful we will see a good product at launch.

What i have seen looks promising enough for me and i dont understand the doom and gloom about the warfare. Manually clicking 200+ divisions from the polish border up to Moscow in HoI3 didnt feel so meaningful to me. I am really looking forward to develop my own battleplans way ahead of time and the feeling of the achievement, then they work! I hope everything falls into place until then.

Yeah, this bugs me, too. I love the battleplan feature as a simple "I don't want to micro the frontline" feature, something that makes it easier for new people or people who don't want to focus on that to wage a war. Perhaps not that effectively, since you let the AI handle it and the player might make smarter decisions than the AI.

But it bugs me that units are more effecient when fighting in a battleplan. It bugs me a lot. I don't want to suffer a disadvantage because I choose to focus on the war waging part of the game and micro that. :I

Yeah, this bugs me, too. I love the battleplan feature as a simple "I don't want to micro the frontline" feature, something that makes it easier for new people or people who don't want to focus on that to wage a war. Perhaps not that effectively, since you let the AI handle it and the player might make smarter decisions than the AI.

But it bugs me that units are more effecient when fighting in a battleplan. It bugs me a lot. I don't want to suffer a disadvantage because I choose to focus on the war waging part of the game and micro that. :I

Think of it from a practical point of view though; it would be far more efficient and effective for a division to have orders a few days/weeks in advance so that it can plan its logistical requirements and maneouvres, rather than get a message informing it that it must immediately move out, traverse three different kinds of terrain and engage with opposition forces without any pre-planning whatsoever.

it is also a very interesting approach of having UI elements / making the choice of letting the AI do something have an actual gameplay impact. i like it. in a strange way it reminds me of the radar tower in Command & conquer. without it you did not have a working mini map. here with using the battleplanner you will have less prepared troops.
