I saw the video earlier today before anyone posted on it, and just didn't respond because I was going out and there was no uproar at that point.

If anyone here is familiar with the story of chicken little, my message to the forum will make more sense...

Folks, the sky IS NOT falling... and here is why...

1. The gentleman stated he was unfamiliar with HOI as a series, and was obviously confused about some basic things (like whether he was commanding divisions or regiments).
2. The gentleman was giving a reaction to a brief game play of a late Alpha/early beta game. It was by no means an exhaustive review.
3. It sounds like he spent a few minutes conquering poland, thus he had limited exposure to the battle system. So his information/experience was by no means exhaustive...

Thus, IMHO, the assumption that arrows are not in the game because he did not mention them is flawed.
The gentleman did not mention battleships. Do we all think that battleships are no longer in the game?
He did not mention Russia. Do we all think that Russia is no longer in the game?
Just because he didn't happen to see them, or utilize them, or mention them, does not necessarily mean they aren't in the game.

IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT ARROWS AND A COMPLEX AND LOVELY BATTLE PLAN SYSTEM IS IN THE GAME. We just don't know, and we shouldn't assume yes, or no, just because of this one ill informed review (especially when devs have made comments to the contrary). Yes, he has more exposure than most of us on the forums, but that by no means implies that he knows it all, and stated it all in his brief sleep deprived video.

So, I for one am not going to panic, and will simply wait happily for the stream tomorrow to satiate my desire for more information from a more credible source (namely, a cat that comes in pods).

He specifically mentioned that system has been changed from arrows to placing intended frontline.

I hope, that he was mistaken or confused, because otherwise battle planner is screwed up (to put it mildly).

I never understood how Quill18 is taken seriously as a video game journalist/reviewer. He's awful at grasping the information quickly off the screen and it wouldn't surprise me if he missed a button the size of Newfoundland on the HoI4 UI to make more in-depth plans. I'd take his impressions with a grain of salt until we see HoI4's demo for ourselves. To be fair to him though I've never commentated whilst playing a game before so perhaps that is a sizable distraction.

And making decisions based on such stupid Videos for a Game thats still in Late Alpha(?) stage, is just... not smart.

Always the same people: First i dont like HoI 3 because AOD is better, then i dont like HoI IV because HoI 3 is better... its just... lame...

this accusations are baseless...

in HOI III, as Germany, to create an army HQ to attack Poland (for exemple) you needed to select 4 or 5 Divisions, create an HQ for it, select another 4 or 5 divisions, create an HQ for it, repeat until you have 5 core HQs, then create an army HQ, then select the core HQs and attach them to the army.

In HOI IV, you select the 22-25 divisions with ONE click, "create" an army HQ (that is what it represents in this exemple), select a General, and DONE, the difference? in HOI III you needed 15 - 20 clicks, in HOI IV you need just 2-3....

..and what the Hell is your beef with arrows? how is the green doot of HOI III any better?
do you forget the frustration when the AI of HOI IIII decides to attack a major city (like Kurst or Paris) head on instead of trying to encircle it 1st!?

with arrows, you can select the path on were you want your army to go! you can decide the Border the Army should defend instead of just praying the HQ below theater would choose the Border Correctly...
you have more Controll with HOI IV then you could HAVER have in HOI III, with much more effienct AI to Boot!

As for the 2 clicks - I think you are leaving out the multitude of clicks needed to preposition those units which you want to lead, those who are to guard the flanks, etc. - without an OOB it will be a most unsatisfactory experience. Unless the HOI4 AI has learned how to use military concepts like manouver warfare, recon pull, and defence in depth the user will have to do a lot of work to get the 'Battle planer' to execute a decent plan.

HOI is about WW2, which means for me that it will have to handle Land Warfare well irrespective of how 'great' all the other areas are. I want to play HOI not WW2 Production manager.
(though I am a fan of the new Production system)

I am pretty sure that they will not show us something so quintessential to the game if it were not ready to be shown.

Or do you mean only a shadow of what it will be after the DLCs?
They have showed us the battle planner before. It is not like they haven't showed it before. I am just thinking that it has changed for the worse for some reason.

Hopefully. Although dev diaries have been too quiet on the combat system front, and any info on it has been that 'it will be more or less the same, since HOI3 system was fine'. Which IMO contradicts to the early build videos of a more userfriendly battle planning. HOI3 battle system was a mess unless you managed it manually on very detailed level.

As far as I know he does not do any kind of review actually, he does not give any scores and whatever. But he obviously knew about the arrows since last time and had to mention that they have been removed. So obviously he asked the developers about them, otherwise he would not be able to make such an observation.

Changes always happens, you can't expect the game to be exactly the same as HOI3.

Look at far cry 4, i think that's a decent game but it is boring and lack of innovation. Playing safe too much can kill a franchise as well, until the game is out we should just sit back and relax.

They have siad for a long tile that BP system will be one of absolut last DDs.

They have showed us the battle planner before. It is not like they haven't showed it before. I am just thinking that it has changed for the worse for some reason.

They have redone it completly.

They have siad for a long tile that BP system will be one of absolut last DDs.
Which is interesting, because battle is a very essential part of any WW2 game. There should have been at least a dev diary on what they are exactly planning to do even if plans change in development.

I'm just (and have been) very troubled by this silence about combat. It doesn't bode well for the game.
