Couldnt find another quick question thread, mods please merge if there is one.

Do supply issues effect the AI as much as the player?
-When playing the SU fighting in Manchuria is next to impossible. The Japanese were fielding more troops than me and having no supply penalties whilst I was being crippled. I have control of Vladivostok and 10/10 infra on all Manchurian border states in 1938.

Does control of straits effect the AI?
- I have conquered Gibraltar as Italy and controlled North Africa and Suez and the UK have been trying naval invasions for years, sailing freely through the med with no ports. Likewise as Axis Romania I have full control over Constantinople and the Allies are still sailing through the Black sea.

Who requires convoys when performing lend lease- the sender or recipient? What would cause a lease not to send?

Afaik supply affects the AI as much as a human player. Maybe the AI bombs your infra into devastation while you don't do the same with theirs? However from your wording (emphasis on controlling Vladivostok) I would imply that you have no land route from your troops to Moscow? In most cases the supply goes by land if possible. If you're having a land route maybe you're having infrastructure issues between Moscow and Manchuria. 10/10 infra at the border is useless if the supply doesn't even reach that area...
/edit: Take a look at the supply map to see where the bottle neck is.

Straits affect the AI. The ships you encounter are those already being there when the strait is conquered, but no new ships will enter the area (except for subs through Gibraltar). SInce there are no supply (fuel) issues for ships in HOI4 they happily sail the area even without ports until sunk.

The recipient's convoys are used.

Hope that helps. :)

I'm sorry, I don't know exactly - at least not for monthly deliveries. One time deliveries are, according to my experience, sent as soon as possbile. And afaik lend lease transport have highest priority in convoy assignment. But I'm not sure about that. Maybe someone else can say more.

"Dispersed Support" sub-branch of superior firepower tree states bonuses for "line artillery": does this mean all artillery in combat line batallions (self propelled included) or is this restricted to "ordinary" artillery only?

In the jargon, a "line" battalion is the kind you put into most of the rows and columns of the division designer. The other artillery and other units are called "support" (and also called "companies" rather than "battalions"). If the tooltip is correct, then "line artillery" would not include the support artillery company. (I don't know for certain whether that's actually the case. To be sure, I'd check the values for both line and support units right before the tech finishes researching, and right after, to see which ones improve.)

I think the question was not about the differene between "line" and "support" artillery but if SPG do get that bonus or just towed (line) ART.
/edit: and what about RART?

btw.: Thanks for linking the main thread. Hope it gets sticky...

Fair enough. So, rolling up my sleeves and trying my hand at some console commands (for the first time):

Procedure: 1939 USA start. Force research of the 1936 M3 (Lee) SPART (M8 GMC), 1940 M8 RART, and 105MM M101A1 (1940 towed ART). Edit the infantry division template and add a support RART, SPART, line ART, and line RART, for easy comparison.

Soft attack pre research:
line ART 43.2 (base 32 per the tech description; the US has some other bonuses already that I didn't track down)
support ART 22.4
SPART 56
line RART 40
support RART 20

Force research of "Overwhelming Firepower" (Dispersed Support branch, second down, +10% "line artillery").

Soft attack post research:
line ART 46.4
support ART 22.4
SPART 56
line RART 44
support RART 20

So, that particular doctrine seems to bump line ART battalions (including RART) by 10% of base (not current) value, while none of the others change. The text seems to be literally true: "line" ART, but not support ART of either form, nor SPART, is affected.

I couldn't find a quick questions & answers megathread either, so let's necro this one...

Does Hearts of Iron 4 utilize AVX instructions at least partially? I can see my cores throttle between maximum and my 'AVX threshold' interminttenly, but it needs to be said I may be misinterpreting regular inactivity throttling for AVX throttle here.

The only (other?) game I know to utilize AVX instructions (pretty extensively it seems) is Witcher 3.

Re convoys- if the recipient doesn't have enough at the time of the lease- does the lease activate when the required convoys are met or does the lease need to be sent again?

Lend-Lease convoys will arrive 30 days after the target accepts the lend-lease (you can see the countdown by hovering over it in your deployment screen). If the target lacks convoys, they'll receive a percentage of the expected lend-lease instead of the full lend-lease. The percentage depends on how short they are. If some of the convoys are sunk by convoy raiders along the route during the 30 days, it'll also impact the amount received, and the sender will lose the sunk equipment to the ocean.

You can lend-lease convoys to a nation that's short on convoys to immediately solve a convoy problem. If you alter the lend-lease deal, it will restart the 30 day timer. So be careful to make changes shortly after a delivery if you can. Making a change to the lend-lease a couple days before delivery will delay the delivery by another month.
