If I repudiate the council of chalcedon and turn orthodox into a heresy, is it possible for me to mend the schism as the new parent religion?

Miaphysites and Nestorians do not mend the Schism. They firest repudiate with Chalcedon or Ephesus, and then they get a "Unite Christianity" decision to subjugate Catholicism as well.

Cool. Do I have to do anything to have that decision be visible, because it has been a year since I repudiated the council and the decision to subjugate Catholicism does not appear in my intrigue tab.

Hm. Looking at the decision, it looks like the Enforce Ephesus decision you need to do first currently looks for the schism to be mended -- it doesn't have a Miaphysite version. I'll have to fix that, but it means you will currently be able to go no further.

No worries, I do have one more question though. After repudiating the council of Chalcedon is it possible for a character of a miaphysite religion to be the byzantine emperor? I'm sorry to badger you with questions by the way.

I recently tried HiP, and while I prefer CK2, it ran a lot smoother. Is this normal or on my end? Sorry, wasn't quite sure where to put this question.

Also, is there a listing of religion and cultural changes made by CK2? Like special units, special options, etc.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason why the Roman Empire doesn't seem to have an auto destroy mechanic like the Byzantines?

Perhaps because the Byzantines are intrinsically tied to Orthodoxy (not trying to sound snarky btw!)? I'm actually not sure, that's something that's been in the mod since Wiz used to run it and I never asked him at the time why he had that system in place. I'd have to let the other devs weigh in on the current stance on the subject though for clarification, as it might be something to look at.

I aware of, if not in agreement with, the rational behind the Byzantine auto-destroy mechanic. I'm just curious as to why they, along with the other two "successors" to the Roman Empire (the HRE and Latin Empire) have destruction mechanics but the restored empire does not.

It's not a big deal really. Just something at once I noticed struck me a weird.

The Byzantines only have an auto-destruction mechanic when it comes to religion -- insofar as the valid holders with that title having to be Orthodox (or a heresy thereof) or Hellenic. The same applies to the Holy Roman Empire -- though it needs a ruler who is Catholic (or a heresy thereof). Both of these successors to the Roman Empire are intrinsically tied into the "holy" part of their creation. The Byzantine Emperor IS the eastern church, more or less, and the Holy Roman Empire is predicated on the idea it exists because the Pope has declared it so. The Roman Empire itself has no such distinction.

Agree with the mechanic or no, it's essentially there to avoid having to code all sorts of exceptions for the special mechanics both those titles enjoy -- which are, very much, tied to their base religious nature.

What is the event to get an old wizard to teach you the religion of your ancestors? I got it once, but then he died - trying to convert to Hellenism. Reached sympathy for paganism but never got further.

Is it intended that your council members use your personal diplomacy rather than your state diplomacy when determining relations? I am almost certain it is working as intended, as it kinda makes sense, so I didn't make a bug report. It was confusing for quite a while when my vassals were becoming *less* happy when I gave them council positions, but it turned out going from 23 state diplomacy (+10 relations) to 0 personal diplomacy (-12 relations) counteracts the +15 relations bonus for becoming a council member...

How often should we be getting characters considered for Sainthood if they meet the requirements, out of interest? Because I've had a few Schism-menders die in my Roman Empire game and haven't gotten a hint of them even being considered for Sainthood.

Schism-menders should almost be guaranteed sainthood, providing:
  • You have a religion head (or are Chalcedonian)
  • Are not Possessed (unless you have Voice of Jesus)
  • Are not Lunatic, Inbred, Hedonist, Craven, Cynical, Excommunicated, Kinslayer, or Homosexual
There are some other traits (like one of the Sympathy traits) which can reduce the chance, but overall a schism-mender should have a very good chance. You won't be notified until a few years after their death, however.

I keep crashing with CK2+ on the new year for the autosave. Sometimes the text AUTOSAVING pops up, other times it doesn't, but it always crashes. Any ideas on a fix? The only other thing I was using was the Ruler Design DLC.

This is something more for the Bug Reports thread, but insofar as a crash goes it may be something we can look into since it's repeatable -- provided it's not simply save corruption, of course. First thing we'd need to know is your checksum, which version of the mod you're using and which version you began your game on. Provided that all checks out, we'd need your save uploaded.

I think the checksum in the letters next to the version? So, it says 2.4.4 (YEJZ). And I don't think it is save corruption since when it happened the first time, it has happened everytime even on new files. Happens both on my home PC and my laptop.

Also I zipped the save file but it said "There was a problem uploading your file", so I'm not sure I can try again if it is needed.

You upload it to the link in the first post of the Bug Reports thread.

I'll take a look at it once you do -- but if you're getting this every time, then I doubt I'll find anything. I play the game regularly and it doesn't crash on every autosave, so the issue is likely on your end. Still, I'll see if I can replicate the issue.

Was curious to know what are the circumstances for the Russian culture to appear? Is it the same as vanilla or different? Been playing in Old Gods start date and Russian never seems to make an appearance.
