Do vassals take spouses or find spouses for their offspring?

Had no problem with my vassals breeding, just give them a few years. You might get unlucky and have them die off suddenly but pick younger guys and you shouldn't have a problem. The issue atm is with courtiers not marrying or having any kids.

What is the game's timeline?

Till 1620 I think.

Can vassals of a Daimyo plot?

I'm currently a vassal of a Daimyo, he is my liege (Leader of the Clan > Daimyo of Kuni > Me), and I'm having a hard time trying to escape being stuck as his vassal forever. Nothing shows up under plot, so I'm unsure as to how one would ascend the ranks. Can I plot against him? Plot against the Leader?

I know I can utilize ninjas and sew discontent, but how much does that help really? Thanks in advance.

You cannot plot to break free from under a daimyo. I'm not sure if you can break free or join other clan through regular diplomacy.

No you can't. You can't plot and you can't diplomatically tell your clan to go **** themselves since you need to be the vassal of the clan leader to do any diplomacy. Only way to break free is to first become vassal of the clan leader. This can be achieved by either your liege breaking free, your liege being elected clan leader or by you becoming a daimyo.

How do you get more people in your court? In every game I've played I have this situation where I have no one left in my court to be a master.

Once in awhile, a flock of new people join my court, so I'm not sure how else you can increase it.

Also, I've learned not to give out titles to people directly in my court (save them as candidates for master of the _____ ). Instead, I give away titles to the people in my vassal's court, who have good relations with me.

What determines whether or not my Retinue has a leader? I'm often finding that I cannot command a seige because my house army doesn't have a leader.

I've found that raising a levy, joining the armies, and then splitting the army produces leaders. Seems to bea bug.

My questions:

What's the red arrow during sieges?
I see two lands that are orange, but with no leaders (!) Bug or WAD?
How does one attack lands held by a religious faction or the Isikki-ikki?

Daimyo is a hereditary title based on where the lands held are; if you hold all the lands in a particular section, you are automatically the Daimyo. What does this mean for you? You can't plot against a Daimyo, but you can grow and expand your lands, and those of your retainers. You can then form your own clan.

When do AI-led plots activate? I've been invited to a couple of plots by the AIs, but they don't seem to eager to get them started.

The first, they invited me to attack my Clan leader and collected quite a coalition. The plot power ended up being around 2.2, but the plot never kicked off. Eventually I got bored of waiting and just broke free myself and the clan exploded into a civil war that everyone relatively remained out of.

Now I've been invited into another plot, and this one's sitting at 1.4 power but no action on it either. Is there some way to poke the AI to initiate the plot and get our war on?

Growing Revenue? I seems to me that no matter how many provinces I have, or how much I expand, my revenue stays fairly constant at 0-3 $ / month... I build and build all they way to Geisha, and my base tax revenue goes up, but it doesn't seem to translate to actual revenue. Do the castles incure maintenance? what are the annual costs for retainers, levies, or armies?

Remember that when you are improving the castle/village you get -70% income from that province, so if you are just improving the same province's village in a row you will not see much of the new income.
