Is it possible to add war demands for an ally in a play? For instance, asking for Greek claims as France vs the Ottos?

Only as part of a sway, I think.

What is a commercial port like Melilla or Macao? Its operation is not clear to me, does it say that I can have access to the Moroccan/China market? How? Is it more of an extender of my area of interest?

Treaty ports act as an entry point to a foreign market, they allow you to establish trade routes (without an interest,,I think?) and you can ignore any tariff or embargo settings of the market owner when trading stuff.

Yes, that one.
The reason why you can't pause it is that you need to select the part of the state that you control - and at the start Russia does not own any territory in those states yet, youe need to wait for the first wave of colonial growth to go through to grab a province.

If you are significantly smaller it can definitely kick start your economy. It can smooth out a lot of price and input issues. Most of your buildings will now just 'work', your general standing of living will go up, you'll have less budget issues.

The downside though is that you basically build up a huge dependency on that market. You are essentially a 'subject' of that other nation, and your power ranked will be capped because of that. It might not feel like the classical subject status, but you're a subject just the same. Yes, you can freely leave the union, you don't have to go to war or anything, but... unless you *really* prepared your economy for breaking out, you won't realize how much you depend on that market until you try to leave and your economy basically explodes (ask me how I know).

How does one actually finish the Learn to Play objective for the achievement? The objectives seem to just run out after a while, but a lot of them seem hidden in that they only pop up after you do something bad and have to fix it. Do you have to just randomly mess up my country in order to get all the learn to play objectives or is there a timed final objective I just have to be patient for?

Also curious about this! Got my feet wet with Tutorial Belgium, and I'm wondering how long I have to play this out before I can jump into a save that means a little more to me.

Why are my interests vanishing? I declare my interests, and every few years I get a little magnifying glass telling me that one of my interests is vanishing. But when I go to add/replace it, I can add back the old interest.

Nonsense! Just jump into a proper play and make mistakes. Save often and make sure you have the max number of autosaves. Mistakes are the quickest way to learn the game.

I will never mobilize generals of which the smallest army is 50 battalions again. Imagine 50k Prussians attacking a native Pacific island force of 5k natives, it was such a glorious waste of money.

I have had this desire too, but after hitting 1870 on the "tutorial" play through, I determined it was enough.

You can get achievements without Ironman now. I just got my first one for Vic 3 for making the opposite side back down in a Play.

I've restarted the tutorial (this time as Sweden) and I have difficulties with the objective to earn 2 obligations. I lean towards other great powers in their diplo plays, hoping they would sway me in, but I had no luck so far.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I think bankrolling another country is probably the most reliable way.

You can also pay off the entire debt of a country to get obligations. This can get expensive real quick if you want obligations to actually matter and not just for a tutorial.
