In terms of V2 game actions, outside of the Americas and the Philippines, the USA did not "meddle" in the sense of redrawing maps or overthrowing governments -- they didn't "meddle" in the same sense as me going to war against the UK or the Netherlands or China to force the release of Bengal or Java or some Chinese sub-state -- that's far different than the Open Door Policy the USA adopted historically.
Uh...

let's see...

Russo- Japanese War, America mediated between the two, forcing Japan to give up some claims in China. One of the reasons China wasn't divided was because America wanted China but couldn't afford colonies there. So the US negotiated and managed to prevent colonial takeovers in China. Liberia was formerly American and had plenty of American influence there. America intervened in Hawaii and annexed it. Spanish American War and the Philippine- American War was another big one. World War I was a huge one. They tried to redraw Europe somewhat more wisely than the Allies but failed. They overthrew a few governments everywhere. Commodore Perry's expedition to Japan was a small instance. Then, America started exploiting Japan through extra territoriality and more. Same with China, Siam, etc. American influence extended to Egypt after the Jaffa outrages. America settled a colonial dispute between France and Germany. In 1927, America had nearly 6,000 troops in China protecting American interests. America sent troops to Siberia during the Russian Civil War. America led international efforts to dismantle large navies. They would've gone to war many times if other powers hadn't listened to American demands.

Yeah, I think the US intervened a lot.

I assumed we were talking pre-WW1, during the era of Imperialism. Your examples are what you'd expect from any major power with "a say in things" that wasn't in a coma. I'm not talking about American "influence" or American trade agreements -- I'm referring to "we want an empire, so we're sending an army to forcibly take your land or install a puppet government." The Americans did that vs. Spain with Cuba and the Philippines, but even then, you had the Teller Amendment for going to war that forbade annexing Cuba, and the Jones Law in 1916 put the Philippines on a path to independence.

The Americans wanted colonies in China? Really? You're not referring to trade missions etc.? They really thought they could set themselves up in China like the British in India or the Dutch in Indonesia? Everything I've read boils down to the USA wanted to trade with China, they wanted to trade with Japan, they wanted to trade with everyone -- that's not my definition of Imperialism.

Intervention, not imperialism. You were talking about liberating countries, that's not imperialism.

Yes, but what I was talking in game terms was military intervention, not diplomatic intervention. Teddy Roosevelt telling the Japanese they should accept a lousy peace deal with the Russians is not the same as the Great White Fleet sinking Japanese battleships and landing troops on Taiwan to force Japan to grant independence.

I just realized, does the AI ever sue for separate peace? I fought a few wars with AI allies who added their own goals and got enough warscore to peace out, but they never did. I've only ever seen the AI send independent peace offers if they're losing badly. I assumed they could do it in Vicky because they do it in other PDS games, but can they even do it in this game?

America probably would've intervened if one of the powers refused the treaty. Of course, they wouldn't land troops but they would use the navy. If the Japanese had refused Commodore Perry's offer, the US probably would've intervened in Japan with military force. It was just the US got really lucky in international negotiations and diplomacy.

Can I use Free People or LIberate Country if it eliminates the current country? For example, in the A House Divided 1861 start, Lesotho has cores on all of Oranje's provinces -- if I were to use Free People on the region of Vrystaat to create Lesotho, there would be nothing left of Oranje -- can I use those CB's to essentially replace one country with another?

I believe they would keep their capital province, but the rest of that state would go to whoever you're liberating.

AI (Capitalists) Question:

Whenever I am playing Victoria 2, it seems that the capitalists barely build factories for me. So I tested it and changed country in the same game and played for about 15 minutes then changed back to the old country (I was playing Chile) and to my surprise it is now full of factories. What am I supposed to do politically, diplomatically, anything to make capitalists create factories - useful factories- at the speed the other countries are doing it?

lol, yes, especially because i made the mistake of going over the badboy limit, so i am basically fighting everybody all the time, dows coming in the moment truces end. constant wars mean my infamy goes down so slowly, I am stuck in a pretty nice vicious circle

Does Prussia keep its national modifiers when it changes country names?

Like the military reform modifier that lasts 10 years: if i take it as NGF, then turn into the German Empire, will i keep the bonus, or will it be removed?

I believe it will. For the game, it's the same country, just with a different name/tag.
