Do Ideology events fire during elections? During elections there are a ton of Issue events that let me push POPs to elect certain political parties in charge of government, but I don't recall seeing the Ideology events firing during elections -- is this by-design, so that if you spam elections, you give up the ability to influence your Upper House?

Are straits displayed somewhere in the user interface? I don't see them on either the map itself, nor the province view. How can I tell if I can "walk" between nearby islands in the Caribbean, for example?

If you're able to reduce the army's organisation to 0 before the game allows them to retreat, they'll stackwipe.

That doesn't really work when the glitch I talked about occurs. Organization will steadily deplete until it reaches below 5 or so, and then both organization and troop count will freeze, leaving the enemy army in stasis until it can retreat. My best guess is that if organization depletion rate is low enough, there's a rounding error that causes it to never reach zero.

Ahh, right, my mistake. Yeah, in that case, what I tend to do is let them recover their org a bit before attacking again, and usually that deals with them.

As far as I know, there's no way to tell in-game. You could like in map/adjacencies.csv. This is one of the things that would be nice to have in a later iteration of Victoria, and as we all know, something they already have in CK2 and EU4. (Did they have it in EU3, too? I can't remember.)

Also, what ideology events are you talking about?

Yeah it was in EU3... I think it was in EU2 as well, because I don't recall it ever being unclear what the connections were -- Victoria 2 is a noticeably half-finished game when it comes to a lot of simple details, compared to other Paradox titles.

Maybe the ideology events are only in POPs of Darkness mod... but there are popup events asking if you want to push a particular state in the direction of a particular ideology vs. another ideology, much the way it has popups for specific issues.

Look at the battles screen. Each day, one more unit is knocked out. If all units are knocked out before they can retreat, the army is stack wiped. Basically you need to follow the enemy with two armies, one army defeats it, the other one suffers the attrition and organizational losses before it stack wipes the enemy.

What is "province size"? What does it mean? Why should I care?
It determines how many people can work at the local farms/mines.

Larger province size = more work available and more potential output.

Province size is determined at game start, and no mechanical means of increasing it is offered.

However, I seem to recall that Heart of Darkness followed the example of the modding community and raised the RGO capacity per unit of province size to a level that means it mostly doesn't mater.

Look at the battle screen. Its one unit being removed from the map each day. If the whole army survives, the unit survives, if the whole army falls, the unit dies. I think the limit is 1.
I never heard of this before, if it is true, it does create weird situations like 50x 300 soldiers would take longer to rout than 5x 3000 simply because of the amount of brigades.

If the USA were to ally with one or more countries on the other side of the Atlantic or Pacific, and declare war or add a wargoal in an existing war, such as Liberate Country for Java or South Africa, and assuming my local allies joined the war, would they send troops to take the provinces in question if I provided naval superiority?

I'm trying to think of ways to roll back European Imperialism worldwide... without sending a single American soldier to die overseas...

Yes, they would but its not guaranteed and highly unreliable.

My philosophy is that if you want something to get done, you better go it yourself. Anyways, the US intervened plenty in foreign affairs during the time after the Civil War.

They meddled in the Americas quite a lot, but they didn't do much overseas except for the Spanish-American War, and even then, it was the secondary front, with the primary front being the Caribbean.

They meddled in colonial possessions, China, the America's, Africa, and parts of Asia. They meddled quite a lot actually, especially with Theodore Roosevelt's foreign policy.

In terms of V2 game actions, outside of the Americas and the Philippines, the USA did not "meddle" in the sense of redrawing maps or overthrowing governments -- they didn't "meddle" in the same sense as me going to war against the UK or the Netherlands or China to force the release of Bengal or Java or some Chinese sub-state -- that's far different than the Open Door Policy the USA adopted historically.
