I'm still trying to learn how it works to maintain armies. For example, in the upper-right info bar section, we see a XX/XX number - this is the number of active brigades out of the number "you can support". However, when I go into the Build Army screen it usually displays an option to build more units from different provinces, even if the other number is say 21/21 or something.

Am I correct in assuming that it's therefore possible to go over that limit, but there will some kind of malus if you do? Or is there a different mechanic at work?

Beyond that, any hints for building a sizable military? I'm playing as Belgium - have some overseas possessions and good tech/industry at home, but obviously don't have a ton of territory to work with. In the last general European war France steamrolled me. While I don't expect to compete with them per se, even Holland has got a much much stronger land army than I. Feel like I'm not optimizing things though not sure what else would be possible.

Mh, still playing my Japanese game - I got one of those "cut down to size" events againsts Bolivia, so I decided to invade (having nothing better to do). Obviously, I soundly beat them and their Columbian allies - but the USA decided to intervene. Basically I now occupy all of Bolivia, having them at 100% war exhausting, most of Colombia, racking up their war exhaustion, and most the little US islands ... which altogether made for something like 50% warscore. The US however really had no reason to give up after that so I decided to for the heck of it invade San Francisco ... well, I've won every battle of the war so far but the war score for battles seems to be stuck at 50%, which in turns means I don't get the overall warscore above something like 60%, since Bolivia and whatever aren't worth anything ...
... aaaand obviously the US has way more soldiers then I do, so I currently wonder whether I'll run out of soldiers or out of game time first (it's 1932 I think ^^).

Any advice on that? Is it even winnable? I've won battles killing something like 100k soldiers which amounted to 0.09 war exhaustion for the US, it's not really getting me anywhere, and I can't spread my forces to really occupy much since they have the clear numerical advantage and I don't like the idea of getting surrounded somewhere in the middle of the states ^^; ...

Ya definitely don't do that. Your best bet is to keep your troops in defensible spots, and use your Navy to blockade everything you can. That plus continual naval victories will hopefully drive up your score to something where you can peace out.

I'm sure there are some with much better advice, though.

The xx/xx is indeed how many brigades you have out of how many you can support, however said support is only in terms of manpower, aka soldiers. In the military screen it lets you go over your supposed limit because as long as you have more than 1k soldier pops in a province it tells you that this province can support an additional brigade, despite each brigade consisting of 3k soldiers rather than 1k and that you may have already recruited other regiments from this province that are either full or in the red/yellow with minimal military spending(so they don't reinforce), the game stops counting those so you can keep on building. But than when you start losing soldiers, even if just to killing rebels, you will end up having a bunch of red/yellow brigades as your provinces suddenly can't support all the brigades you raised from them.

Ok so how i do specifically provoke the right kind of rebels? And can i do this from the start or is there a point when Communism springs into existence?

Research Revolution and Counter Revolution(the tech following Nationalism and Imperialism), this tech greatly increases the chance of Communists to rebel in your territories. You can also check the movements tab in the politics screen to see how strong Communist rebels are in your territory, and if they're still a movement than keep suppressing them to radicalize them further and make them revolt sooner, though Communists are already very militant so they'll most likely already be a rebel organization by the time you check up on them.

K, now another question. Can i do this with a nation like China, or The like after westernizing? Im asking because i want to paint the world Red but i dont want to do so as the USSR. And will it give me awesome flags like the Wiki says it will? I cannot find a reference.

Yes, you can do it with every nation since we're talking about techs and inventions, which all nations have access to once they've westernized.

So I am playing a Westernized China with Vietnam and Korea as satellites. I want them to westernize (sooner rather than later) what steps do I need to take to ensure this happens?

Edit: I want to do this with ALL Asian Nations. The idea is to have Indochina and Indonesia (and if I can, Japan) as sattelites and dominions; free India in my Sphere ALL westernized by the end of the game.

Them being in your sphere will speed up the rate at which they accumulate points towards reforms, and you can intervene militarily to keep their capital from being occupied by reactionaries.

I'm planning on buying Vicky 2, i was watching some let's plays, and i noticed that Denmark got an alliance with Germany after they took their cores from them in a war (i can link the video and time in it if you want) . On the other hand i've read that the AI will never ally with someone who has their cores. Is there any explanation to this? What about the canals?

I don't know why, but Denmark is an exception to that rule. They don't seem to be mad at you for taking your cores from them. Every other country gets a -1000 modifier to alliance, but not Denmark.

What about the canals?
What do you want to know about them?

Self-preservation? There is quite a size difference after all and Germany is usually an excellent ally to have in my experience.

Additionally, I don't think it would be worthwhile for Denmark to try to take the cores back. They would simply get beaten into the ground.

Yeah, but even smaller AI countries than Denmark won't ally you if you have their cores.

I don't know why, but Denmark is an exception to that rule.
First of all, the -1000 alliance modifier is not tied to cores, but to the core reconquest cb. Since Denmark has only a core in Schleswig, but Germany/Prussia owns Schleswig and Holstein, Denmark doesn't get the CB, and therefore lacks the penalty.
