Playing as Argentina for some reason i cannot secure an alliance with any great powers i have relations of 200 with USA and France and high with others but this gives me nothing.

It would not be so bad but Brazil which is allied with UK is super aggressive i can take on them but the brits absolutely destroyed me twice already. How do i get a serious ally, im seriously close to rage quitting this game ? And my infamy is constantly low

Anyone know what happens if rebels take over a Chinese substate? Does it gain independence?

I can answer this question now if anyone is curious. YES they do. However, the Chinese Empire has cores on them so they won't stay independent for long.

Although at one point every substate became independent at once. Possibly rebels took the main one.

I believe if one of the substates westernizes before their parent nation the empire fractures. Haven't actually done a china game yet myself though. That's next on the list.

I don't quite understand how military access works with regards to naval range. I was under the impression that if you get military access from a country, you can effectively "use" their naval bases to extend the range of your ships. I had military access from Portugal (playing as Greece) thinking it would let me invade Johore easily, but it didn't work. Does military access not work that way, and if not, is there a way to use another country's naval bases to extend your range?

You can't use other countries' naval supply range with military access. However, you can stop in their ports to reset the "Time at sea" attrition, which increases the longer a ship is at sea and out of supply range. You can also stop for repairs at their port. So even if you take damage sailing around Africa, for example, you could stop in British bases and repair along the way so you could make the trip.

Because it has either (a) failed to remove all the South German minors from your sphere or (b) failed to remove Alsace-Lorraine from France.

and preventing me from forming austria hungary, and is it possible for me to inherit any south or north german countries and how can i do that?
If you want to keep the Slavs and Magyars and Italians and Romanians, you can only inherit any of the German states by inheriting all of them (by forming Germany).

Yes. If China westernizes first it annexes all the substates; if a substate westernizes first (which is the normal case in HoD, because in the absence of aggressive conquest, the substates are actually in a better position to do so than the empire proper), then the empire and all the substates westernize immediately and the substates are liberated.

(I have a feeling it's usually Qinghai that Westernizes, but I haven't been watching closely enough to tell you for sure.)

How can you arrange to get sphered by a particular GP?

Or avoid it?

Also, p. 38 of the manual implies that each province produces just one RGO good. Is that right? If yes, what happens when new goods come into existence (e.g., I've been told that eventually BRZ will produce rubber)? If no, how do I see details on additional RGOs?

You can't directly arrange it, but you could repeatedly Decrease Relation with one you actively don't want to be sphered by, and Increase Relation with one you do want to be sphered by, which will affect their relative influence gain rates.

Yes.

An province event fires that replaces the old good with the new good.

I am sick of Greece hoarding all the international attention. The moment they gain something from crisis, the Ottoman will declare war on them (once the Greek are out of Brit's sphere) and get it back.
I think some sort of long grace period should exist, or the Ottoman should lose core on territories lost. It is a bit unfair to the Greece too. If a previously non-existing country, say Bulgaria, gain independent, the Ottoman will lose cores on those lost territories, but not in the situation of Greece.
What do you think?

I've seen several people here say that 'Anti-Military' parties hurt your military score. Is that just because you can't run soldier pay at 100% causing a few of your soldiers to demote, or does it hamper your score via other mechanisms as well? Does the government's military policy have any impact on the new Naval Supply mechanic? I haven't payed close attention to see if anything besides number of bases effects that.

I have noticed this problem as well, they win a crisis but right away they just take it back quite quickly. Makes Greece all dotted and crisis mostly just about them taking the same peice of land for the third time!

Making them lose the cores though might be a bit too much, but I am not sure. I just think people who play ottomans would hate such a change, feeling it forces history

I would agree with not having the cores if they are lost in Crisis though anyway. It is getting silly. Why would great powers realistically ignore all of their work being put to dust after a few years and not even care? It makes no sense

As BRZ, did this consistently: +ENG at every opportunity (also gave access), then -FRA. But FRA sphered me anyway in 1843--in fact the moment relations went negative. Anything further I could have done?

More Qs:

BRZ starts with two small armies, one supported by a POP in Rio, one in Porto Allegre. Both declined immediately, to 888 and 740 respectively. I raised mil. spending but they recovered only extremly slowly--PA from 740 to 744 in about 8 years. Options?

First try took 12 years to get Liberal majority in UH. Second try chose Lib govt. at outset and pro-Lib issue every time. Took the same 12 years. Anything else that can be done?

Built level 1 RR in Rio. How to tell impact on economy?

Improving relations will do nothing to help you land in a sphere if the GP has priorities elsewhere.

Raising military spending will do more to shrink your soldier POPs through promotion to officers so long as the basic needs are met. The surest way to preserve soldier POPs short of staying out of war is to get clergy and bureaucrats to levels high enough to discourage promotion to those categories.

12 years is too soon for low-lit, low-con countries like Brazil to go for reforms. Be patient.

Use a microscope.
