Sorry to ask another question so soon.

I have the "Unlawful Territory" provincial modifier on about four provinces, and I've waited until I got cores on all of them before I planned on doing this. If I pulled out of the Empire, would I lose that modifier? If not, is there any way to get rid of it? The penalties to tax and manpower are bad enough, but the infamy is just unbearable sometimes.

If they're cored the modifier will disappear through an event, so just wait for a few weeks.

The province modifier will only disappear if the controller has a core on it, so you'd either have to wait it out, or create vassal then diplo-annex if the provinces aren't cored for you yet.

As for the infamy modifier, that applies to every non-cored imperial province, so you'd have to use the leave the HRE province decision, which means you can't be part of the HRE.

By the way, the trade screen says when I hover over Astrakhan "effective distance: 2000". Why does it do that? Other eastern europeans are trading there...

Only thing I can think of is that (I think..) Pskov is a coastal province, so the game might be having it go around by sea into the Mediterranean. That seems a bit silly though. Could just be a cache problem. Check to see if you aren't embargoed?

Pskov is not a coastal province, I'm pretty sure. The most likely reason for would be if Astrakhan isn't in Europe, and Pskov is, but I'm not sure if that's the case. Landlocked nations can't trade in CoTs outside their continent.

Astrakhan is, in EU3, defined to be part of Asia. Astrakhan is, in real life, considered to be part of Europe as it is west of the Urals, north of the Caucasus, and situated at the mouth of a European river.

I took a look at which nations are trading there:
GH, Ottomans, Hungary, Nogai, Byz, Epirus, Moldavia, Ragusa, Lithuania, Georgia, Novgorod, Karaman.
Other than the two hordes and Georgia, none of them has an asian province, but all have a coast - except Lithuania, and I'm not sure if Nov's baltic and white sea coast should count. No Tver, Yaroslavl, Ryazan, Muscovy, Wallachia, Transsylvania, Serbia, Smolensk, Ukraine or Bosnia - all of which are certainly closer than Ragusa but landlocked... then again, so is Lithuania. Does being landlocked maybe just apply a penalty to trade range?

In fact, after the Pskovian victory in the great patriotic and totally not opportunistic war against the Teutons (who unfortunately were not able to fight back because their troops were being killed by Poland, Lithuania (who cancelled our alliance :() and Denmark,oh, and Riga had the same idea the now catholic Pskov (the terrible Transsylvanians forced Pskov to change religion, while the other, lesser ally of the vile order, Castille, accepted a mere concession of defeat) had, hopefully they won't DoW me, they're allied with Hansa and have a mission to save the Latvian people of Livland... I'm planning to deal with this russian style and enact a settlement policy, but it might take a while - of course, my other Settlement Policy in Estland fired after 2 years...) and acquiring a coastline, merchants can now reach as far as Ile de France. Just Estland, Livland and Trade tech 4 can't be the only reason, sea access probably has something to do with it.

By the way, how exactly does infamy affect trade? I have 7 currently and still have 5 merchants in every CoT I'm trading in.
I also have been noticing some very odd behaviour from Riga. Every now and then, they will very quickly recruit a unit - so most likely a mercenary - in their capital and add it to their 3k army, soon it will disappear. Why do they do that?

Because the AI thinks Riga needs more than three regiments, but after hiring the merc decides that it can't afford the maintenance on the troops it now has.

(The AI is generally far too eager to hire mercenaries. I have a nasty suspicion it would rather have a full MP pool than a cheap-to-maintain army.)

What happens when you PU Japan?
az9m4i.jpg

Do you just PU the OPM, or do you get the whole of Japan? If the former, does the Shogunate collapse when you inherit them? Can you inherit them?

If I recall correctly, inheriting the OPM will disband the shogunate, based on vague memories from 5.1b.

QUESTION:

I'm playing Mamluks and somehow I have one overseas province that I'm unable to locate... I'm sure all of the lands I "own" are land-connected to my capital, and I cannot pinpoint an "occupied" province that is overseas. Thoughts?

Hello!

As Sweden I have just completed the mission of conquering Vorpommern by diplo-annexing Mecklenburg who had ended up with this province. The next month I get Pommerian as accepted culture but at the same time I am listed as breaking the Alliance with Brandenburg. Not so good.. :(

Why is the Alliance ended and is there anything I can do to prevent it? Increase relations with Brandenburg before diplo-annexing?

Maybe you're controlling something like Cyprus or the Maldives? Or maybe a hostile army is cutting off a few provinces? If I remember correctly, one rebel stack in Sinai, I'm pretty sure they don't even have to occupy it, is enough to make all non-Africa distant overseas territory for the Mamluks.

Something I have been noticing in my games is random relations drops. For example, as Pskov, I guaranteed/RMd/accessed/gifted Bohemia up to over 100 relations from 30 or so in the beginning. A few decades later, I'm at -150. A few years later it's -200. I had maybe a maximum of 12 infamy in the meantime and was excommunicated (thought to remember papal relations > 0 would be enough, wrong!) for 5 or 6 years, but is that enough to ruin relations that bad? We have never been at war, I never violated their SoI (and don'w have my own they could violate) except once when I got access to Poland, but there relations were already in the bottom. Similary, in my game before that, I was having miraculously bad relations with Austria. I wasn't even conquering, so it's inexplicable to me.

You don't get a popup when another country receives an event that reduces their relations with you, unless you elect to receive popups for all events from all countries.

Question: I have EU3 Chronicles, that I downloaded with Steam. Is it possible for me to play with a mod?

I know that you generally can't use mods with Steam that change the game's main .exe file, like I'm sure MEIOU and other big mods all do, but I tried downloading MiscMod and I placed the files in the mod folder like the readme directed me to, but I don't see any way in the game to access the mod. Am I missing something obvious, or does the fact that I got the game through Steam prevent me from playing any mods? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
BK

I don't know about steam, but with the normal installation, you have an eu3game.exe (red, DW(?) symbol) and a eu3.exe (black, Paradox symbol) in your EU3 directory. The former starts the game normally, the latter lets you choose mods before starting.
