Quick poll regarding Wallachia/Moldavia

Gameplay wise there is not much room what you can do bring Moldavia and Wallachia closer to their historical performance. In fact, the romanian principalities had to fight magyars and tatars quite frequently as well, not just the ottomans.

I would offer though to consider some events/missions for Bessarabia province. It was a strategic black sea shore and there were quite many powers involved in controlling it. It threatened the Genoa trade, which in turn motivated them to bribe crimean tatars to invade Moldavia. And it was also an important fort which Ottomans put a lot of effort to capture which the ultimately did take in 15th century and thus cut moldavia from sea.

However, there are changes coming in 1.12 and we don't yet know their impact. So I can't really say anything before playing the new version.
Wallachia and Moldavia still have no strategic depth, so will probably still be easily rolled by anyone who can comfortably defeat their army. Of course, conquering Wallachia (or Moldavia, if you leave them alive long enough before doing it) is a bad idea (because HCC) but I very much doubt it'll be materially harder.

In 1.12, Wiz confirmed that Wallachia has a level of development similar to Scotland. It seems accurate enough for me. :) (culture is another matter obviously)

Number of provinces and BT are not the main metrics of the game, it's now development.

How many players in here think that Wallachia/Moldavia in the current version and in the upcomming one ar underpowerd/missreprezented and totally missregarded?
Just a remainder in the current build Wallachia has 2 provinces and Moldovia 3, in Common Sens Wallachia gets 3 and Moldavia stays at 3.
In the mid XV cenceury both countrys combined had a territory of 180.000 square km .... thats allmost 4 times the size of Switerland and had a population of around 1million.... Germany had around 8 and the British Islands had around 3.5 And both countrys in a avrege raised armys of around 10k men to fight.
So, any thots?
And please dont start with 'Eastern Europe'.... Eastern Europe started to exist as a conotation after WW2 and it should'v ended 25 years ago. Untill ww2 it was just Europe

The four provinces of modern-day Lombardy (Cremona, Brescia, Mantua, Lombardia) had one million and half inhabitants, in 1500. Exception made for regions where a very divided map is needed to represent a complex situation, I can see no problem with that.

Milan's 4 starting provinces + Brescia + Mantua is 130 or so development in 1.12. For comparison, France starts with about 300.

Development isn't solely meant to represent population, but it does a much better job of simulating densely populated regions than base tax did.

Well, the region is all farmlands in reality. I saw on Reddit a map depicting water levels if all the world's ice would melt and Wallachia would look like the Netherlands, half submerged:

Probably, and I'd expect the existence of Imperial Cities that get benefits for growing tall while staying at one province will also help increase basetax over time in the HRE.
It wonder how one will expand within HRE after some time though... Least developed province should be enough to get a grand coalition formed against a minor :D

I wonder though, did they remove x2 AE modifier from HRE provinces?

Probably, and I'd expect the existence of Imperial Cities that get benefits for growing tall while staying at one province will also help increase basetax over time in the HRE.
They get -10% development cost from gov't form at the very least.

I am tired and I first I understood this as 'not counting Wallachian and Moldavian possesions in France' and I had very solid WTF moment and immediate vision of Romanian colonies and protectorates in the old France.
