1. Tech:

I'd like to be an industrial naval power England, which would mean focusing in Production and Navy. Would it be okay for me to basically ignore land tech and simply pick up the neighbor bonuses that will level it over time eventually anyways? (We are talking a 200 year game minimum, probably 300 year maximum that is being roleplayed so only things that make sense to take will be taken. No England eating the entire HRE or conquering all of Asia, so no exploding income.)

2. Navy:

Is it even possible to be a dominant force in EU3 being naval bases? I'm wanting a large navy and a small land force. I've been reading and I've heard of some horror stories when it comes to navies, specifically large navies. So, is controlling the world as a mostly naval power even feasible in game?

3. House Rules:

For those of you who play England, what are some house rules you play with? I want a fruitful, entertaining game that will not make me the number one power when I convert to Vic2, so what are some fun house rules I can play with that will make sure I remain able to defend myself, but also not be capable of conquering the entire world?

Bah , If you don't expand too much , neighbour bonuses will prevent you from getting too far back your fellow europeans.

I would say Land Tech is always an important one to keep up with unless you are a small trading nation.

(In which case you are always in front in all of the techs anyways!)

Sliders setting, as said by yabba, are a better way to simulate english naval focus. I'm not sure England was a backward nation in terms of landtech, but they sure did not have a huge land force, full quality, full naval is a good way to do that, you'll still have good troops just not so much, so no continental invasion on your own.

Being a naval power is frustrating, in my opinion, in EU3, since the AI doesn't follow the same rules, they don't have attrition and they don't have fog of war on ocean. So the whole geo-power of having bases around the world is nullified, you need bases for you, just to level the field, not to gain an advantage.

A godd house rule is to divide not conquer, if you take Bill of Rights as a national idea you'll have a CB against any nation which can release another nation, use it to get involved in wars and split your opponents to avoid the rise of any competing naval power.
Keeping a few provinces around Calais can be a fun alternate history and make for an interesting vic2 start

Here is another question then:

I just accidentally inherited a rapidly growing Denmark, which gave me Denmark, Holstein, Brittany, and Stade. Given my intention is to roll play and mostly be a naval power, should I release all of these as Vassals? I will likely keep Brittany as I am keeping my hold on the English cores in North France that I won earlier. I will certainly be releasing Bremen as a Vassal. Denmark is where I am unsure. I think the Danish lands are fairly suited for a naval power, but I am currently wanting to focus in technology so I can start my island empire. Is it worth keeping all of those coreless provinces, or would they be of better value if I just released Denmark as a vassal?

P.S. Remember, I'm not going for world conquer and I'm hoping to ultimately transfer this to Vicky2 and have an interesting game there, so I'm not wanting to get too large. The "you should never give up provinces" thing simply does not apply to me.

Denmark's provinces are not worth keeping when they're wrong-cultured and undeveloped. Definitely release it as a vassal.

I'd keep the ones to get the Sound Toll if he's staying mercantalist (release Holstein and sell them the peninsula). If going fully free trade then yeah, release as a vassal.
