Prelude:

I've never played a game with colonisation before but in my current game as Oman, I had a 10k army cleaning the shores of the Horn of Africa in order to ensure that no native unrest would spoil my colonisation attempts. However, when these sanitary measures were completed and I sent my first trader to Mogadisco its religion changed to Sunni (<-- EDITED), not Shiite (Shiite being my state religion). I immediately sent a colonist but there was no change in religion, not even a 6th and 7th colonist could change their ways.

Questions/Finale:

Are there natives with there own religion and if so how do I know what religion they practice?
Do trading posts in NA keep their pagan religion after colonist-colonisation?
On full Naval, approx. how big a chance do I have of getting a random explorer (I would like to reach Bourbon and Mauritius before the Portuguese)

This sounds like it might be a bug. If I'm remembering right Oman's state religion was changed at some point from Shiite to Sunni, perhaps somehow the colonization process wasn't properly adjusted?

I don't really know though...

How high is the chance of success by sending a missionary?

Maybe someone else with a Suni religion colonized it first and the the natives had an uprising and destroyed the colony.

you might not have known about it... the only way to know is to use a missionary :) Just use event 1004 and send a missionary... check the results and when it finally works you can always reload or something :)

Well evidently there are natives with their own religion! I've been experimenting for some time now and I found that when in colonising-mode you can clearly see what the religion of those unfortunate is/are. Only if the first settler you send is a colonist will there be a change in religion, a trader just isn't enough.

This still doesn't answer one of my question though: Do trading posts in North America keep their pagan religion after colonist-colonisation? There must be someone with the answer to this one, I'm hardly the only conquistador out there...

If you send a colonist after having already set up a TP, it'll change the religion and culture when it succedes. Is that what you're asking?

I use TP's as province holders against AI colonizers when I'm short of cash, then colonize those spots later...

That's exactly what I'm asking! I've been trying to get this to function properly for an hour every night since a couple of days back, but I decided to give it one more try... and guess what..? It worked this time.!?

Sorry for being such a nuisance! I'll be of then… to make Oman rulers of East Africa…
