I have 2 questions regarding the beta patch...

Messina-Apulia (394-395) strait is the only strait through which the border of two accessible sea zones (995 and 998) passes. Now, according to adj-defs.csv file, that strait looks like it passes ONLY through zone 998 (Gulf of Taranto). That means it is NOT blockable by a fleet in the Straits of Messina (995). Is that correct?

On a similar note, since Veneto (370) is now an island that is surrounded by part of the Adriatic Sea (999), can a fleet sitting in that sea zone block access to Venice through Mantua (370), Istria (368), Tirol (371) and Steiermark (369)?

Thanks!

Yes Venice can be blockaded by a fleet in the Adriatic, to simulate that Venice is actually a lagoon and sea power was essential to capture it IRL.
Very helpful for venice as it is the only naval power in the region (except maybe the ottomans) so it has a nearly impossibe to capture capital

Thanks for clearing that up - I had NO idea why I couldn't capture Venice. I figured it might have something to do with my lack of a navy but I didn't realize this was included in the Beta version.

I felt so stupid right-clicking on Venice and having my army just stand there and twiddle its thumbs

Note also that in the newest beta, there is a fault in the adj_defs file, one of the straits around Venice has a double entry, it should look like this:
Code:
370;368;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;369;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;371;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;390;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
instead of this:
Code:
370;369;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;369;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;371;sea;999;Make Venice an Island
370;390;sea;999;Make Venice an Island

about question one.... it is correct, look at my picture (i put the pirates in the straits of messina)

and about question 2...it is true, a fleet can block venice from land invasions from all adjacent land provinces.

To make it so there can't be ships in either of the two seas could you just make another entry that goes through the other sea?

Darn, is there any way to make it so if a ship is in one of the zones it can't go across?

Does this mean that from province 368 you can get to venice?
or does an entry for istria exist? Or is it replaced by the double entry?

Well, could it work if you merge Gulf of Taranto with Straits of Messina?

may i suggest the name Strulf of Tarsina? (or Gaits of Mesanto, but the first sounds better  )

:D

Thanks for the replies.

I have already corrected the double entry to make Veneto an island...

As for the Strulf of Tarsina  , I guess the only way would be to edit the game map, which is a lot of work. Hmm, it'd be really nice to see Veneto graphically as an island :D

In the unmodified file: then you can get to Venice from province 368, even if a ship is in the gulf of Venice, Venice and province 368 are still adjecent (IIRC) but they are not seperated by a strait.

In the fixe file: Then you can get to Venice from all adjecent provinces, and Venice is blockable from all directions.

The double entry is most likely a mistake.
