Helllo! Have played a lot of EU3 but am new to CK and have a few questions about counselors..

1) Where do you deploy your spymaster to uncover plots against you? To your capital province, or to the capital of your vassal / enemy who might be plotting against you?

2) How do you ensure your marshal commands armies, seeing as he's the one with highest martial score? Do you have to take him off of a mission before raising levies?

3) To fabricate a claim on a ducal title, do you send your chancellor to the duke's capital? Otherwise you just get a claim on individual counties, right? Also, is there a list of ways to get claims - couldn't see any details on that in the manual, but perhaps there's a wiki?

4) Is there any point having counselors research technology - it seems like the other options are much more interesting. Does tech play a big role in the game like in EU3 or not so much?

Thanks everybody.

Thanks everybody.

1) It does seem to me that the spymaster uncovers plots involving people that reside in the province he's in, though I'm not completely sure. I do usually send him to the vassals I'm suspicious about.

2) Your marshal can only do one thing at once. If he's on a mission he can not lead an army. So, yes, you should take him off the mission before raising your levies.

3) You don't have to send him to the capital, AFAIK, just a province the duke directly controls. Whether you get the ducal or county title depends on chance, though.
Some other ways to get claims, off the top of my head:
- marry someone who has a claim (preferably one that can get inherited, the tooltip tells you whether that's so)
- invite someone with a claim to your court
- against kingdoms, buddy up to the pope and get an invasion cb
- you automatically have claims against heathens and heretics
- you have claims for the lands under your de-jure titles, f.e. if you own part of a duchy, you have a claim on whoever owns the rest

4) Tech doesn't seem to play that big a role. It's kinda hard to really assess, though, with the limited time span of the demo.

Not region-specific, culture-specific. So an English-cultured character who inherits the County of Praha will be Earl of Praha. (...)

In principle the culture-specific titles are great, however IMHO ideally there perhaps might also have been a regional component. So that even an English ruler of the county of Praha will be count of Praha and not earl of Praha. IIRC English and British rulers and nobles only used earl for their comital possessions in the British Isles, however for any comital possession on the European mainland they used count.

I have two little questions:

1. The County of Brescia for example has 3 realms (a city, a baronie and a church)- can I (and if yes where) mod this county in order to get 6 realms?

2. My second son is my vassall - he is a Mayor of a City. Is there a possibility of changing the law of succession so that his son would be his heir in this city or is this impossible.

Thanks for help and thanks Paradox for this demo.

Question concerning this as well, cultures won't change will they like in CK1 so you can't show Scotland developing towards English can you ? It'll just be Scottish at the start and that's that right ? No way to show in vanilla of the culture changing in Scotland is there ? So it'll be either the Gaelic titles all the way through or the English title.

There's no reason culture should change less in CK2 then CK1. It's possible that the devs united the Lowlands and Highlands culturally, into a single Scots culture. DVIP and the last DV Beta had both cultures, so I don't know why they would have merged them.

But if they have it'll be trivial to mod in a second Scots culture, and make the Lowlanders morph from Anglo-Saxon to Lowland Scots.

Nice having a back and forth with you Nick.

Nice going back and forth with you as well.

Hey guys apologizes for butting in but it caught my interest to see someone talking about Scottish titles as it's something that I've been keeping an eye on.

I sort of agree with the broad line the developers have chosen, after all they're making a massive Europe spanning game, I bet they'll be over-generalizations and simplified-for-gameplay cultures and nations all over the place. In an ideal world Scotland would be at least two cultures (heck even three or four!) Gaelic at first, with Thanes (maybe?) and Mormaers, but then (would be awesome if it was possible by event) Scotto-Norman Scots culture, with Earls and Dukes. The culture spread was slow and not always welcome but as it's been mentioned previously the majority of the south spoke Ingis by games end. I'm happy with what's been done so far but I'd love it if a talented moder (no way is that me!) could create the dynamic Scotland of the High Middle Ages.

Thanks for help and thanks Paradox for this demo.

1. Look in the \history\provinces folder. It looks something like this:

Code:
# 318 - Brescia

# County Title
title = c_brescia

# Settlements
max_settlements = 4
b_bergamo = castle
b_brescia = city
b_peschiera = temple
#b_treviglio = castle
#b_salo = castle
#b_lumezzane = castle
#b_montichiari = castle
#b_castiglione = castle

# Misc
culture = italian
religion = catholic

# History
1115.7.24 = { capital = b_brescia }
1240.1.1 = { capital = b_bergamo }
1281.1.1 = { capital = b_brescia }
1298.1.1 = { capital = b_bergamo }
1313.1.1 = { capital = b_brescia }
1319.1.1 = { capital = b_bergamo }

You need to change it to "max_settlements = 6". If you want the game to start with 6 holdings, remove the # in front of three of the castles below that. You can change them to cities and churches if you like, as well.

2. No. Any city that is owned by a mayor always has elective law. Cities can only be inherited if the holder is feudal lord with a castle holding elsewhere.

The devs decided not to include the pre-norman kings of England (well, you know, except Harold), so the regnal numbering would work realistically. Especially with regard to the later Edwards.
I'm sure there are already modders on it, though.

Because they don't want to screw up the numbers of subsequent English Kings, particularly the Edwards.

Edward I was actually the third Edward to hold the title -- Edward the Elder and Edward the Martyr were the first two -- so if you include England's Anglo-Saxon Kings in the history file for 1066 somebody who starts in Edward III's day will see him as Edward V.

Apparently not including any Anglo-Saxon Kings on the list means that a demo that starts in 1066 won't have anything to recof in England's section of history-file.

Two questions...

1) What determines if a province changes culture? If im a norman ruling say.... a random province in sweden... is there a chance for my province to change culture? I remember in CK 1 they wouldnt let that happen unless your provinces touched. Or conversely, if i'm the normans and I conquer England... can some of the saxon cultures change to norman?

2) I kind of like the inheritance where it all goes to the eldest male... lets me have more control. However, every pace ive tried so far in the demo has started with a different law and its REAL difficult to switch (i would have to be a king AND have a high crown authority!!!) Can someone let me know what regions actually start with that inheritance law? as those are the ones I would like to play.

Also... how (if at all) can I change my home province? I kinda want to make sure my first born son (i.e the future 'me') inherits the 'good' province and the lesser sons the sucky ones.
