Hello,

I've been a fairly frequent player of Paradox games for a while, mostly CK and HOI2, and my past Vicky experience has usually involved mass usage of cheat codes to do strange things like conquer Africa as Hamburg.

Recently though I've been taking it seriously, and I've played fairly successful Swiss, Belgian, German, Swedish, and American games. However, I'd place the emphasis on fairly. After reading most of the information I could find on the forums and still have a few questions. Your help would be appreciated.

Letting the computer handle trade seems to be a total disaster. However, when I try to set it up myself, I still always seem to fail to get what I need. For all the essential goods I don't produce myself (raw materials like cotton and dye, pop-promotion goods like paper, and military goods like artillery and convoys, what do I set the sell/buy order to? Even when I'm high up in the prestige column I seem to have trouble getting basic necessities like cotton without going on an imperialistic spree that is usually either very ahistorical or impossible (Switzerland isn't exactly in a great position for colonizing).

My other two questions refer to the AI (maybe) cheating. First, and I know this is something Ricky probably fixes-how do some AI nations build claim buildings requiring steamer convoys so early? I don't see how they can research the tech and build the factories so quickly.

Also why does the AI cheat when coming to peace deals? The two biggest culprits I've seen are the US-Mexico and OE-Egypt wars, where the day (or maybe a few days) after a peace deal is signed that differs from the historical result, the border will shift to where it is "supposed to be" (ie present day US-Mexico border even when the peace deal might have been for a few provinces in California and Nevada, or Egypt losing all provinces north of Sinai even if peace deal left them some control.

Oh, and one final question about Ricky-I was considering installing it once I get a more complete grasp of the game, but if I need to know if:
A) Its possible to have VickyRicky and Regular Vicky on one computer in case I don't like it? and
B) If I get a new computer and need to move files, will I be able to move Ricky or will it need to be downloaded anew?

Thanks for the help.

There is no difference between VickyRicky and Ricky alone - both names refer to the Revolutions expansion. Not sure if you can install both original Victoria AND Revolutions separately on one computer - if you make a copy of your original pre-Revolutions Victoria folder from your HD onto your desktop, you *might* be able to have Revolutions install over the desktop copy. I'm not familiar with how the Gamersgate installer works in that respect though, perhaps others can offer advice.

Are you playing Ricky alone or do you have a user-made mod like VIP added into it. In VIP we have events that adjust the borders to the historic borders if AI MEX or AI EGY lose their wars, to ensure the historical evolution of the game environment. At least for Egypt this does not happen in non-VIP versions of Revolutions.

In the early game It can be a little hard to get your hands on some of the resources, what i usually do is focus my expansion on those I can get my hand on.

I normally don't have any problems getting any goods after the first 20 years or so. Perhaps it's related to the AI not having enough POPs to go aorund, have you tried the POP splitting util in my sig? It really helps the exonomic part of the game along, at least in my own experience.

You can copy vicky around as much as you like. It' doesn't need any thing in the registry so just copy away.

And it's perfectly possible to have both vicky and ricky at the same time, just do as OH says

Could it be that the US or Ottomans satellited their respective enemies? When you satellite a country you have cores on, you will get all core provinces without asking for them. I don't know if this is the case here though.
