Hi
I've just started EUIV again after 6 months on stellaris and HOI4

1. what EUIV patches and DLC are worth getting and why?
I have Cossacks, common sense, wealth of nations and art of war
2. I'm a bit rusty on some of the mechanics - how do I upgrade units? which menus and buttons?

thanks

1. none outside of sales. rights of man can be nice if you play outside west europe, and mandate dlc for far east asia. you should be good.

2. in the conquistador helm tab of nation menu. (press f1 and errrr... 7?) the units are listed with name there. you can upgrade to new units there, or chose new units within a tech for more/less pips somewhere.

welcome back!

I was thinking
a) If I take religious, i use up 2800 admin points to fill it, so minimum 35 years. I thus get the CB in 1620 and start heavy vassal feeding and integrating 80 years earlier than waiting for the imperialism.
b) if I take diplomatic, I can grab 20% more land for the same warscore, but i have enough targets and not enough points to core or integrate.

I attach my maps so if anyone wanna have a look and share some advice, please do so :)

As Ottomans you generally want to go Humanist ideas instead of Religious because of the tolerance of heathens they have. The CB is powerful but at the current stage of the game, hyperblobbing is still very inefficient. In your current time it is better to consolidate power by completing states and securing trade nodes.

Once Absolutism fires you instantly want to get it up as high as possible to get enough admin efficiency. By that time Imperialism CB shouldn't be that far away. Once you have it it is time to basically conquer the world.

In my opinion you shouldn't take Religious ideas solely for the CB anymore. You take Religious only if you want to convert a lot of stuff. For stability and long term benefits Humanist is currently the better choice.

well that is the plan; however, not sure I can manage WC in the last 100 years.

and expand only via "fabricate claims" and "threaten war"?
I think I will encroach italy and ragusa that way. being a threatening bully :)

Yes. Take a peek on some AARs. Atwix's Haida campaign shows you a lot of neat tricks how to achieve a world conquest. If you don't aim for a one tag or one faith achievement 100 years is definitely more than enough. Admin efficiency ist just unbelievably powerful in hyperblobbing. If you are not afraid of truce breaking nothing can stop you anymore.

You have influence ideas which reduces the cost for unjustified demands. Let's be honest: Who needs that much diplo anyways? Just declare a conquest CB and take 100% peace deals. The diplo cost won't be the limiting factor on your expansion. Admin will stay the most important monarch power even though you waste a lot of diplo on unjustified demands. And given that even more admin would be lost due to filling out religious ideas ... well, just throw that diplo out of the window.

What I meant is that you shouldn't overextend yourself on your admin points. In the current situation without absolutism it is more efficient to fill out another idea (Humanist) instead of grabbing a lot of useless land that isn't stated and isn't contributing to trade lines.

I really wanted to hit "agree" and leave the thread... in fact, I did, then came back.

You misunderstand what 'threaten war' is used for in this context.

Everything else is an almost perfect summary <3

As I remember, Deus Vult makes sure that your Holy War CB never expires. However, it eventually becomes redundant when Imperialism CB becomes available.
I'd say that the biggest boon of Religious are the numerous positive events it brings and the fact that the Reformation Era becomes easier to deal with.
