Hi!

I'm new to this community so I don't know much about anything of this mod. I have played this mod for about a week so I have some questions to ask

1. Heirs.

I guess this topic is two questions. The first being how come the country goes into chaos when when my ruler dies and his son takes over? I mostly played as the ERE for the past week and every time my heir takes the throne, 4 pretenders rise up, people requesting higher council powers, and independence movements occur. Is there a way to prevent all this stuff from happening? The second question I have regarding Heirs is when I create a title, it seems that the title's succession line goes to my second son instead of my first son. Is there a way I could change this to my heir being the successor to a title?

2. Retinues

What are they and whats the purpose of them? (Note* I hardly played base game. Got this game for free after a weekend deal on steam and if I did play the base game it probably would answer many of these questions).

3. Byzantium

One thing I have in common with Mussolini is my dream of restoring the Roman Empire. What time period would be best to play as the Byzantines? How the heck do you get ride of the Seljuks? Any tips and tricks for this country?

4. Council

One of my biggest question regarding the council is what if I abolished it? Would people go awol and all my vessels rise up? I was too scared to actually try to see what would happen if I ever did so I just left it. Is this a good thing to do as I find the council a huge pain in the rear sometimes.

This is most of the questions I have from the top of my head. Maybe if I have more I'll post them here. Thanks for those you answer!

(P.S. if I posted this in the wrong location, my bad. I am a noob)

1. Succesion is meant to be unstable, specially in the ERE. Make sure your vassals are happy the time you die and they will get an opinion bonus with your heir
You have gavelkind succesion which distributes titles among all your sons. Switch to primogeniture, which may take time.

2. Having more troops and a permanent stack so you dont need to call your vassals levies and puttong them together for a small revolt or a norse raider

3. If you have problems with the Seljuks try 867 start. Or try defeating them by baiting them into defensive battle on the mountains of Anatolia.

4.You would still have councillors to send them on tasks, but they wouldnt vote on laws or anything. Still they may form factions to demand you give them back their powers

This may be unpopular opinion, but the coolest thing about retinues is winning a war, having temporarily 50/6 holdings in your demesne, then buying 4x as much retinue units as you could for the next 50 years.

When it comes to council, if you are "noob" PLEASE disable conclave. It's completely bad DLC if you are literal noob. Forum guys praise it a lot, but I guess people who hate it, don't frequent forums anyway. You are losing almost nothing disabling conclave.

Conclave can be fun, if you are already established yourself, got most of the laws right, it allows some EXPLOITS. Just disable it, enable it when you have 200 hours in game. I have 2000 and I still disable it when I play pagans (they start at 0 ruler power)

Without Conclave it's almost impossible to pass laws on big realms, as you have to convince every dipshit in the empire. If you are smaller it's ok, but I don't see why it's so terrible for new players

You are stuck at 40/120, you give 20 small gifts and some honorary titles.
I agree, harder to pass laws. But... there are much less of them without conclave!
I only need medium CA usually, compared to... grant titles, imprison, execute, partial council rights, and some other I may have forgotten

If you start as pagan ruler, that soon becomes almost emperor
at least 6 laws in council that make your life miserable untill you pass them
vs 2 crown authorities... its no brainer
I wish Icould just enable conclave after 100years, but it resets all laws to worst ones :)

Ifyou mean mods like game of thrones or other big ones - you don't really need them. Want to give yourself a training wheels? You can edit txt files in the game folder, so for example your and only your cultural retinue gets +500% size for -80% the price. Consider it training wheels.
What I always edit is to make kids have adult looks at 14, so I can stop the bethrothal if my future wife is showing signs of uber ugliness
