Also since reinforcement is instantainious the penalty of having minimum strength divions in peace time is not that large. Sure, they will be at zero org after being reinforced, but if you keep a few full strength divisions in forts on your borders you should survive being suprise attacked and save alot of money.

Aye I've kept the army maintanance at 0 during peacetime to avoid paying through the nose for my army. I'll disband my current army and rebuild it with less artillery brigades.

If you have it at zero for just a short while you can then turn it up to full as well as military spending to make sure that you have a large manpower pool. You will still save lots of cash.

Ah so it's the artillery that's ruining my budget, not the divisions per-se.

I see there's no way to disband the brigades seperately without disbanding the whole division though. :( Looks like I'm going to have to scrap my current army and rebuild. So what you guys are saying is brigades affect the whole stack, so even if I had a stack of say 20 divisions, i'd only need one artillery brigade.

I'll beat it in midn for the future. Thanks! :D

Well the individual division will get a bonus from an artillery brigade to its fire score which only it benefits from. However the entire stack also receives a bonus from the presence of artillery brigades in any of its divisions. So a stack of 20 artillery will be much stronger than a stack of 19 guards and 1 artillery, but it will also have several times the upkeep cost.

Just to clairify, the presence of artilery in a stack (well, battle actually) will give a combat bonus similar to attacking from multiple directions or being dug in. A summary can be seen in the battle window by hovering the pointer over the window below the divisions. The art brigade will only provide bonus to fire values to the division it is attached to though.

Note that you have to outnumber any artillery your opponents field in order to get the bonus. The difference of how much artillery both sides' are fielding determines how big the bonus is, IIRC. So more artillery gives a bigger bonus, but, as pointed out above, artillery is expensive to maintain.

So, before I recompose my whole army...

Is it just artillery brigades that have the massively increased supply cost, or is it all brigades? Would giving all my divisions guard brigades (except one who will have artillery) be a bad thing when it comes to army maintanance?

Artillery adds and extra 80 to supply consumption, guards only 21 extra (and engineers only 8!). You can find this information in '...db/units/', and look for the appropriate brigade there. Open with a text editor and it will show you the extras for that brigade type.

You don't need to stack divisions with the same attachements up, however. It is good to have every few divisions have an attachement, just for that bonus, but not every division with a brigade attachment. Also, the attachments need not be the same.

If you go to the panel for building new divisions you can see somewhere at the bottom of the division statistics the supply cost is shown, and you can swap brigades around to compare costs and see what you can afford.

This depends on your tech-levels as well. Higher techs means more expensive units,,,,Or atleast thats what the techs say

Those mostly affect divisions rather than brigades. AFAIK, they don't get horrendously more expensive. Check costs in-game, as Polar Mongoose said.

correct, in VIP, the more modern your army becomes, the more expensive it becomes.

All that new technology and training didn't come cheap for the great powers, and military budgets in general grew faster than the rate of inflation, especially post-1870.

Feels so strange to ask this considering that I've played this game quite a bit, but are percentage modifiers in Vicky additive or multiplicative? I mean, does + 100 % mean + 100% on current value or base value. My instincts tells me it's on base value as it is the most common Paradox approach in other games
