I have just recently begun playing HOI but have been a long time RTS gamer.

I was hoping that through some of these questions and answers this might be of help to other beginners.

The first question that I have not been able to find an answer for is the ability to bring an Isenhower or Marshall to the rank of Minister. In fact under of Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Army there are no possible replacements.

Can anyone help me?

I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question. Any other suggestions for a newbie would be greatly apprieciated.

I don't play the US enough to know what ministers they get, but wait a bit and as the years go by you get more minister choices.

Gunny is right. Each year at the 1st of January new ministers might become available.

And since you're a newbie I just want to make sure: DOWNLOAD PATCH 1.06! :)

It's still 1936, right? Different ministers only become available at the beginnings of new years. In 1.06 (can't say about the vanilla version), Marshall becomes available in '39 and Ike in '45. I would have figured that the CC of the Allied forces would have been available a little earlier, but that's how it is. There is no way to promote army leaders into ministerial posts without tweaking the game files and adding them in yourself; leaders and ministers are just completely different, and not at all related.

There's always lots of people here who can help you with these sorts of things. We love showing off our knowledge. :)

Now I have a question for those who are a little more experienced than I am. What are the exact effects of loyalty? If a minister has very high, average, or low loyalty, what would that do for his special abilities? Give further bonuses? Temporarily shut it off for a day or two without giving you any indication? Or is it one of those features that has no bearing at all?

The function loyalty never made it out of the manual (may it burn well) AFAIK. At least I've never seen it in effect in any way.

Oh, and for you Cameron, don't forget to patch to 1.06. And welcome to the forums, may your stay here last long!

I appreciate the help. However, I'm a Mac user and I can't seem to find the patch for Mac. Is it possible that the patch wasn't released for Mac?

Not to ask too much of you guys but could anybody give a general strategy for playing the U.S. from 1936 onward? It seems that I am bogged down in micro managing.

I didn't know there even was a different update for Mac? At least, I've never seen one, so I would think that the update you see in this version works for Mac too. It's worth a try, you can always reinstall. :)

Hmm, I'm not 100% sure, but I think there should be a general strategy guide somewhere on the forums for situations like this. Look in the FAQ thread for starters, lot's of useful stuff in there.
