Questions for Paradox on surprise in v1.03

Very simple questions:

1) does the surprise feature (in combat) work in v1.03 for air units?

2) land units?

3) naval units?

4) Was it implemented differently than how the manual explains it? In short, it's an opportunity to do more damage during the first round.

5) Many players feel that the surprise feature is "broken", meaning it doesn't really do a difference in the result of the combat and that any research invested to increase those surprise percentages and/or spotting factors are just a waste of IC. Any comments on this perception?

6) Any changes on this feature in the pipeline?

Just implimented in 1.03. :)

That's still in the works...

All parts of the game are being worked on. Hopefully this can be one of them that gets finished before too long. :)

See, cases like this is why I'm a big proponent of the "give us a manual update" in some sort of read me file or PDF document. Far too many things are changing and for some not in the know, this can be very aggravating. I've always been researching suprise techs....

Well, here's the question:

Surprise purportedly impacts the first "round" of any given combat. After that, as I understand it, it doesn't do anything.

How many "rounds" does a typical combat go? Is a round a day? An hour? Ten minutes?

Because as it stands now to this observer it appears that the number of rounds in a typical combat is very large hence surprise is basically meaningless.

I mean even if there is a tech that guarantees me the surprise bonus on round 1 of a 20 round combat, that's not a big deal.

Even if it guranteed that only the enemy would take damage in the surprise round, and they'd take double normal damage it still wouldn't amount to a hill of beans in a long combat.

And to guarantee myself the surprise bonus I have to research like dozens of electronics and signalling techs.

By contrast, 8 IPs on Basic Submachineguns make my infantry fight 50% better for all 20 rounds of combat.

Which would you rather have?

160 IPs spent to gain a 100% bonus on round one of a 20 round combat (averaging out to 5% per round).

or 8 IPs to gain a 50% attack bonus for all 20 rounds?

Based on those numbers, Basic Submachine guns have a return on investment 200 times greater than signalling and other suprise generating techs.

Woops. :p

yeah, detection has been much improved lately ;)

surprise works... I just can tell from various italy games, where my navy faired poorly w/o adequate electronics tech, and ... well... less poorly with a few electronics :D

a round of combat is not necessarily a fixed timespan...
