Hi, I have been playing Victoria without patches for a while (not knowing patches exist :p ), so when i finally found the patches (I am using 1.04 now) the game was quite different ( no crashes every year/month as an example )

But the game is also a bit more difficult, while i was able to make Paraguay a great power already in the 50's, highly industrialized and with a high prestige from cultural tech's and sometimes a bigger population than the the USA when I pursued an immigration policy, now I end up bankrupt when i try to industrialize in the 50's  and almost without prestige because the cultural inventions trigger late for me.. even if I'm the first to discover the tech which triggers the invention.

So now my questions : )

-Are commercial tech's useful? They seem to increase costs from education and crime fighting almost as much as the increase of tax/tariff income and they seem to increase demand for pop's reducing their cash-reserves/percentage of goods they can buy -> reducing my ability to tax them : (

-Is crime fighting of any use? It costs even more than education, leaving no money for other expenses.. and it reduces crime only a bit now even with full funding

And I've been trying to mod few political parties and I wondered what the effect of the culture/religion setting is..
As an example: the country is 99% catholic and 99% platinean, if you set a party catholic and platinean,

Will A: the electorate vote more on this party because it's explicit catholic/platinean
or B: is the only effect that the not-catholic/platinean part of the population will never vote on this party, effectively reducing the parties share of votes : )

Thank you very much for reading : D

Ignoring the existence of Patches?! I bet 20 confederate dollars you are not used to P-dox games, are you?

You still miss a thing: Revolution expansion pack, and VIP mod.
first to discover the tech which triggers the invention.

Sure they are. They trigger late inventions and unlock new research options such as bank techs. Actually, every tech in the game is usefull, as it unlock others or bring some benefit in some other area.

-Is crime fighting of any use? It costs even more than education, leaving no money for other expenses.. and it reduces crime only a bit now even with full funding
Funding it will prevent those nasty crime-event and bank crash events. You will eventually end losing more money because of those things than because of your funding.

I'm no modder and forget much about how things were way back in Vic 0.4.
But: you can't give a said party a culture. It can only have a stance on the issue (full-c, limited-c etc). In revolutions, there is also the minority party thing that prevent minorities to vote for some parties.
The religious thing is only usefull for immigration (pluralism helps it) or electoral campaign.
Basically, two things does influence the vote of the pop (read: the one that can vote: rich enough and/or not being part of a minority if it's Limited-C and beyond): the issues they do have in mind and their class ideology.
If your workers are concerned about moralism, they can vote conservative instead of being socialists.

yes you can. In the party files one of the parameters is culture, and if it is set to a specific culture, the party will only get votes from members of that cultural group.

there is also a religion parameter that works the same way.

from the lead line of each party file ;

country;id;name;start;end;ideology;Economic;Trade;Religious;Minority;War;Culture;Religion;Status

Oh!
I was not aware of that. I know the trick of minorities won't vote for it, but I did not know a party coulb be, let's say, Texan only.
I thought he wanted to speak about the cultural stance.
