So as a clan Leader, I just conquered a province, increasing my Demense from 5/5 to 6/5, and also earning me a title of Daimyo of that area in the process.

I'm worried about that 6/5, though. How terribly will it affect me? Can I ever increase my maximum? And if I bestow land to one of my subjects, will it lose my Daimyo title as well? Ahd what exactly will losing that title do to me?

I believe 5/5 is the maximum amount of Demesne you can hold without incurring a +5% revolt chance penalty for each demesne after 5/5. It's considered to be a low risk though, considering you receive a lot of the benefits of controlling another demesne (income, buildings, etc).

Definitely, 6/5 is safe to stay at. Right now I keep myself at 7/5 which has a +10% revolt chance. Even if rebels pop up, they are quite easy to deal with and their morale breaks very fast. In the event they do rise up, just raise the levy of a few neighboring provinces and crush them.

Gifting land titles to your subjects will still allow you to keep the daimyo titles for yourself. I haven't gifted an entire kuni of koris to any particular person yet though, so I don't know if that's how vassals receive daimyo titles from you, but gifting 1 or 2 provinces will not make you lose the Daimyo title.

Daimyo titles are gifted exactly like Kokujin titles (of Kori). They're in the exact same list of available titles to grant, in the diplomacy window.

If you are willing to invest 1500 into theatres (one in each province -5 revolt risk), you can control 6 provinces without penalty.

What is the advantage to going 7/5 instead of staying at 5/5? Especially early in the game, I want upgrades asap. Not giving out titles slows down this process greatly. Latter in the game there may be a shortage of loyal options to trust, but that does not occur very often.

I'm about to finish more then a hundred years early and never went over 5 provinces. I think it would only be an advantage early in the game when you are a small clan. Later when you are big, money starts roling in anyway throuh tribute from your vasals.

I'm fine with keeping in my limit of 5, really. It even slows down the rate of each province's building progression.

If I have plenty available, and loyal, courtiers then handing out titles is what I'd prefer. I still get 30% of what they make and they can improve the province, provide more troops, better than I could if it were mine.

Unless I'm in the late game and all the provinces are upgraded to the max, I stay at 5 because the way the game is designed limits how many provinces I can upgrade at once.
