I'm going to get this a my local store soon, but I was curious if it would better to get Overture first?

While Overture is significantly less good (good game vs great game), it is good enough to be played. And while the story has a massive change in direction, you'll still have a better understanding of what you're doing here by playing Overture.

So I would say yes.
