I have close to 700 hours of game time. However, 90%+ of it was 1.15 and prior. I used to think I was fairly 'good' at this game. Always played ironman. What I did not realize is that ironman contains multiple difficulty levels. Didn't ironman used to have a default difficulty level? When were hard and very hard options added to ironman, or were they always there and I just never noticed?

I believe Very Hard was added later if I'm not mistaken so it could be it was after 1.15. Hard difficultly has always been in the game though AFAIK.
I'm pretty sure it came with mare nostrum in 1.16, the condottieri patch. Since I did first very hard campaign in bugfix patch 1.17.
