Hi folks,

I just happened to load up my German game as the US to check out how they were doing vs JAP and could help but noticed that they seemed to be quite badly handicapped by the following: -12 of map money and -340 off map supplies  This is in '43, with the UK already out of the war, so no LL-stuff going that way any more.

I checked the files and saw that most of this is stuff from the Great Depression and the mobilisation events that NEVER get's removed. Is this intentional? If so, could someone explain to me, why that is? From my understanding the Depression was pretty much cured by the war effort, to the effect that the US accounted for ~50% of the worlds GDP by '45. Surely that Depression badness should be gone at some point?

It does get removed - should all be gone once the USA is fully Mobilised. What you are probably seeing is the cost of building all the synthetic rubber plants.

Are you sure?

Let me see:

Great Depression (830020): Money -9, Supplies -175
Roosevelt's Recession (830021): Money -3
Fed Spending Drive (830023): Money -3
Recovery at last (830024): (Money +4, commented out), Supplies +25
Rearmament (830000): Supplies -20
Partial Mob (830001): Money +1, Supplies -30
Full Mob (830002): Money +3, Supplies -50
Total Mob (830003): Supplies +100 (rarely happens due to trigger)

So up to Full Mob I count -11 'Free Money' and -250 'Free Supplies'. Am I missing something or are there some mistakes with the +/- signs?

Hi,

Unlike Vanilla we haven't dumbed down the USA IC for play balance. So we've had to take other steps to model some of the USA economics. Since USA has a much higher level of local consumption there are some penalties associated with that. The initial penalties are applied in the Great Depression event. We probablly should have made a stand alone event for this, but didn't and the subject was never brought up in the Beta. Plus there are also penalties to reflect that the military structurally got less from mobilizing than in the European powers. That's why you are seeing the negative Supplies associated with the mobilization events that get neutralized if USA goes to TM.

This seems to work out about right in game now as the USA builds up more slowly. But when it does reach Full Mobilization it gets 700+ IC and is capable of building a lot of units.

Yeah there's a mistake, the recovery event just gave me -25 supplies. The comment behind is says it was +75, but now it apparantly is -25?

Like the Great Depression event, it increases offmap supply cost.

What's make me wonder is the -0.40 manpower us gets every day. This is mid 1940 and france is fallen. Have ic to start stuff to build but manpower is werry low and generate slowly (don't remember the numbers exacly 0.5 or so)

Had 2 ctd, one 2-3 weeks after germany did dow Polan. Erros was that game did not foun an german.ai file or someting. Reloaded an autosave and it went ok. Next ctf I duno the error msg. Was after fall off france ot tied to that event.

I think it's there to simulate that the US never fully mobilized. They never tapped into their huge manpower potential.

I'm playing a US game right now (have it on ALT TAB lol) and I've got 500+ manpower in 1940. That should be more than enough really even with all the reinforcing and training of new units going on. Have you researched all the economic recovery and industrial techs?

EDIT: OK, I lied :p. My manpower is at 290. Increase of 0.89 a day, with all relevant researched up to date (no tech rushing though). It's still more than enough for me though. I desperately need more IC for all the stuff I want :D

Hi,

Yes, the MP penalty is there to represent the fact that the USA never drew into it's theoretical manpower reserves to the level that the other powers did. If we didn't have this in place USA could build 50+ divisions prewar and enter with a giant land force when this was politically impossible. So prewar USA is somewhat forced to concentrate on Air and NAval units.

Evan after the war started for political reasons many men were given exemptions from the draft based on a combination of marital status, job, and health. The war department made the descision early in the war not to arm and equip every able body male and focused instead on war material production. I have a copy of Shelby Stanton's World War 2 OOB and in one of the apendixes it states that something like 10 divisions worth of troops were not mobilized just to concentrate on B-29 production to train aircrews and support personel needed for the air groups in question. In fact by late 1944 infantry training and replacements was so low that soldiers trained as anti aircraft crews were thrown into infantry units with disasterous results. Also, another little known fact that during this time, was that black soldiers volunteered for white units who transfered into combat units from support units. Sadly these vetrens were often not believed when they told family members or friends after the war that they served in combat units because aside from from two infantry divisions blacks rarely were allowed to serve in combat units.
