Despite @BjornB 's hard work, we all know that the complexity of paradox' games usually leads to an AI that leaves much to be desired in the beginning after release.
I heard that some mods did an amazing job in HOI3 in making the battle AI much smarter then in vanilla.
Never having played HOI3 with mods, my questions now are:
1) how much smarter did the battle-AI become through mods. Was it enough to give the average player a challenge?
2) How much do you think, that talented modders will be able to improve HOI4 AI over time?
3) How much will PDX itself improve the AI and what is a realistic expectation about the battle AI in about 6-12 months from release?

Thank you in advance!

Not being a modder, I`ll try to answer your questions, because I am interested in the subject and will try to tweak the AI.
1) Not. The battle-AI was not moddable in HOI3.
2) I think they would be able to improve it a lot. It all depends on how moddable Paradox allows it to be. I`ll personally will be experimenting a lot with whatever values and scripts are changeable.
3) I expect it to improve, as the hype train crashes and complains start pouring. The battle AI in HOI3 was improved from ridicule to mediocre. I pledge to Paradox to make it as open as possible to modders, so that the collective intelligence can be put to good use - I think it would be the only way to make real progress.
It is truly a very complex task and requires expert knowledge of the battle mechanics - which doesn`t exist yet.
