I'm on the fence between PC & Console, just for the fact I can chill out in the bedroom on the console. My concern is the controls. I have Googled all over the place, and cannot find any information on how it plays with a controller. Can anyone offer some insight on this?

Hollie from Access Playstation plays on PS4 and briefly touches on controls. Video here:

However as Spannbeton said go PC for Mods.

I've not read anywhere that mod support will come to the console so I'd go PC.

Other than mods though I'd say the console version controls pretty well (I'm on the Xbox One). I don't feel like they get in the way at all, but I'm only a few hours in and don't know if that holds as your colony scales up. There's really no substitute for having a mouse in these types of games. I personally don't mind that much as I'll make the tradeoff for the added luxury of playing from my couch and on a big TV.

I have a Shield, which I replace my Steam Link a while back due to its limitations of 1080p, but I only use it in the living room where I have my computer hard wired in a nearby room. I am uncertain of how the quality of streaming would be OTA, even with AC, going back to my bedroom. So like Zoetermeer said, its about the trade off of luxury of playing on a big screen in other rooms vs. mods. The controls don't look horrible, but I could see myself maybe getting frustrated with the lack of quick movement from the mouse. Thanks for that video Luna_UK.

You're welcome.

The potential lack of quick movement might not be too much of an issue compared to an RTS where a horde is attacking part of a colony and needing to move to the area and move troops quick is essential, but I can see that a large colony could get tedious moving back and forth with a controller

I personally find mod support essential. Sometimes there are even total conversions which make it into a completely different game.

Just have a look at "Cold War Crisis" which was a total conversion for C&C Generals Zero Hour.
Completely different game and certainly of the quality of an AAA Game back in the day.

Or the "Battlestar Galactica Fleet Commander" Mod for Homeworld 2... Just loved that one...
