Question to mods. CPU Req's.

I know that somewhere here I read that 128 RAM is basic for running Vic. and 256 is suggested. I have 128 and it sometimes has trouble with HOI even though it is suggested to have 128.

Do you think that 128 will do the job with Victoria or will it be frustratingly slow?

Actually, anyone can answer this question - I am not as computer savy as I should be and i don't spend alot of time playing games.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

But I did see that, I was just wondering if someone with more experience with Paradox games could "theorize" if the games are playable with the minimum RAM requirements.

HOI is slow, later in the game, with the recommended amounts (maybe it's just my computer.)

Thanks, though.

I must admit I upped my ram to 768mb when I started playing EU2 - MP games :)

And it did make a difference :D

The thing is the system specs are set for the gold version, with Paradox's post release support, the games tend to expand with patch after patch adding features and additional data.
So what may have been enough memory to run version 1, may not work with version 5.

-Just my two cents, not the official word.

Gateway performance 1300 PC
1.3 GB
128MB RDRAM

I don’t spend much time on a computer at home, and this is what I was recommended to buy by a co-worker.
I am looking to upgrade to 256 RAM, or buy a new PC.
Suggestions?

That will improve the speed of your 'puter manyfold. Specially if you are running XP as your OS

I see your point. But, I have to rationalize spending the $ on memory upgrades. I mentioned that I don't spend a lot of time on the PC and with a new little one on the way, I need to save every dime I can.

If I do upgrade, my PC allows for upgrades. I just need to make sure it is worth it.

Thanks,
DR

WinME is not such a memory-hog as XP is, so you're in luck there..... but seriously, when it comes to upgrades, upgrading your memory usually gives you the biggest bang for the bucks, then it's the graphic-card and the cpu.

This goes if you're playing games as well using your 'puter for surfing the web/working with spread-sheets...

Check out the prices for your kind of ram (you need to know type of ram, size & speed) at your local radioshack or whatever it's called nowadays. If it's cheap enough, it's got to be worth the effort ;)

This PC in not bad at all. If upgraded it has 2-3 years of life :). Get additional minimum 256MB RDRAM for ~$50, more is better. In US check this site

Hey, why is the thread called CPU req? The question was about memory.

Passed a certain threshold, memory has little to do with load speed. ;)

Thank you, you have been most helpfull!

I will be upgrading my memory through the help of one of my buddies who volunteered to show me how it's done. (He was mumbling somthing about static electricity in between fixing our network problem).

Thanks to all that have responded!

DR

P.S. Sorry about the title :( I meant to ask about performance speeds in relationship to the amount of my memory.
