I was worried that VIC would corrupt HOI2.... pity if it did. The tech tree does look lame and not as versitile as in HOI. I1 hope it will be possible to revert to stuff like in HOI1 - at least to a similar level..

"Lame" -- Fiendix, you sure don't mince words, do you? ;)
As I said above, I loved the tech tree in HOI and loved Shep's Techmod and the various branchings taken by it in CORE even more. But clearly that affection was a minority opinion and things have been simplified to reduce the ever-dreadful "micromanagement."
You can't please everyone!

Personally from what I've seen I like the new Tech method, more realistic to me. Because at this level you're not directing each and every project assosciated with a research program. You're directing the general direction of national research by identifying which programs/goals are most important and then the program managers direct the project managers tasking and so on and so forth.

That's all true, and that's why the majority of people will probably approve of the new system.
What can I say? I love micromanagement . . . .

well.... the new techtree is also highly moddable - and can be easily expanded. to balance research time out just the difficulty of the single techs needs to be reduced - doubling or even tripling the number of techs should be no problem for the modders :)

he he yea.. well since Max says thats its highly moddable I'm not complaining ;). I understand that they wanted to make it easier for the crowds.... not that I agree with that 100% as the HOI crowd seems to be very specific, then again the money comes from the masses, so it is hard to say. However since its something that can be modded - not like the sycro movement which I think was a design error as you cant even move units over your terrian together and make them arrive at a specific city in the same day... (but lets not get back to that) - its something thats doesnt require my engagement ;). I am sure there will be issues that will require more lobbying from us devotes ;) :D.

Hey Max that is good to hear!
But what about the graphical representation?
The demo has all neat and tidy research screens with a button for every tech to develop. Are those screens moddable to? Are they generated somehow?
What if one has say 60+ techs you want to put op there, can you make extra screens or should the modder make really tiny buttons ?

That too will apparently be workable, although what the limits would be is hard to say now.
Hey -- maybe some semblance of the old CORE/Shep tech tree CAN spring back to life! There's something to brighten a dreary winter day! :)
