I see that you guys now have the following province improvements from
perusing the Demo files....

ic = {
coastalfort = {
landfort = {
anti_air = {
infra = {
air_base = {
naval_base = {
radar_station = {
nuclear_reactor = {
rocket_test = {

The question is, is it possible in the future for a province addon to be
created for "mechanized" units? In that you need such a province
addon to make those to prevent the completely unhistorical german
panzer SWARM?

Infrastructure is the limit for units in a province if things are how they should be.

Shep, it's great to see you back here! To bad this game won't require an update of your famous tech tree (Personally, I do NOT like the simplified tech system, but what the hell . . . .)
Anyway, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Do you want to know if there could be a special province penalty to discourage the piling up of armor, over and above penalties for overstacking?

Some of the ideas came back, like "Air Cavalry" :D. And I'm sure that I can
add in more equipment and technology. It just won't be as fantastically
detailed as the original techmod.

Well, in HOI, one of my biggest gripes was how Germany could produce completely unhistorical amounts of tanks, and how IC could be switched
around at whim, with no loss between aircraft, tanks, ships etc.

Victoria really improved on this, by requiring you to have certain goods
in your country's inventory before you could build a division, preventing
ahistorical swarms of equipment.

Sorry to interrupt. Since you mentioned being bothered by ICs being switched at whim with no penalty (which I think HoI2 addresses with the serial vs. parallel production option), I was reminded how it bothered me that you could stop/start technology development on a dime and switch projects around at a whim. I wonder if the person answering your question could mention whether the new technoly development fixes that.

In HoI II you get a "tooling" discount if you produce many of an item in series- meaning that after the first run (and several after I think) you pay less IC per unit produced. If you cancel the series production then you lose your tooling discount and must now pay full price for the newly ordered unit. Other then this, I am unaware of any penalty for switching your orders (take note though, I don't have the game).

It's called the "gearing bonus," and yes, you'e right. Apart from this and high per unit production costs there is no specific device for restricting production of anything. Maybe in HOI3?

mechanized and armoured units have a high fuel cost, which seriously drains the TC (-> SE -> ESE)

TC depends on fuel supplies? Hmm . . . you learn something every day.

P.S. Max, I can't quite make out the quote in your sig. It's obviously 15th-century or so, but I can't make sense out of "zu kainem Pier." "zu keinem Bier"? What's that mean in there?

I believe that's the famous "Reinheitsgebot".

The part about barley, hops etc. (second paragraph from the bottom)

When I read it correctly, it is the German purity law (purity requirements) for brewing beer (only hops, malt-made from barley- and water).

In effect yes, because the projects are larger than in HoI 1 (e.g. a whole new level of tanks, rather than merely inventing armour skirts or upgrading the gun), so deciding in mid-project to abandon it and do something else is a pretty drastic decision.

Aha! The Reinheitsgebot! Silly me. But as my sig says . . . .
I can't imagine what would happen should Max and I ever meet up in person. What would we do? :D

Well, rooting around in the file, I saw that you could change the gearing
multiplier....So this might actually be workable....

I'd Like to correct this; I'm rooting around in the tech files, and I found
a listing of:

************

Infantry
This field of research allows a nation to develop weapons and materials for its infantry personnel. It includes hand-held weapons and special equipment allowing the construction of Marines and Paratroops. But perhaps most importantly, this field of research will allow the development of proper field engineering equipment and improved logistics and command systems. This field is vital if you want good infantry, paras and marines.
Great War Infantry Division

Elder Service Rifle
Infantry Gun 37mm
Basic Signal Command System
Grenades and Mines
Mass Assault Training
Early Infantry Division

and so on so on so on.

It appears that research is now like it was in Victoria; you research the "main body" of the tech tree, and once you've achieved something, you randomly
recieve inventions without having to research each individual one

Well, not quite, but for obvious reasons we'll have to pick up this part of the discussion in a few days. By the way, the person you will really want to have in on this discussion is Zanza. He did a LOT of work in developing the techs for this game, and knows their ins and outs probably better than anyone who isn't from Paradox. I was most heavily involved with resources and production.

I was worried that VIC would corrupt HOI2.... pity if it did. The tech tree does look lame and not as versitile as in HOI. I1 hope it will be possible to revert to stuff like in HOI1 - at least to a similar level..
