How do PUs happen now?
Only if you claim a throne, or do "automatic" PUs happen.

Also is there an overview somewhere who will inherit?

And finally, what is the effect of related dynasties, say a Habsburg in Austria and one in Lorraine?

Iam confused about this and reading the manual/DD did not help me much.

You can still get a PU with just a RM, but it's a lot more likely with a claimed throne. Mouseover other rulers to see what will happen on their deaths.
