...started playing again after 2 years absence, I recognized, that there are several new unit-types / concepts:

1. Recon-support-brigades:
  • Cav
  • Mot
  • AC
  • Armor
...what do you use for which division-types?

2. SPA-support-brigades:
  • - light
  • - medium
  • - heavy
  • - s.heavy
...is there a real difference?
...if so, what do you use for which division-types?

3. Communications-Company-support-brigade (or what ever this is called in english):

...still bugged?
...good for Armor-Divisions?

4. Best support set-up for Armor-Divisions (DR)?

can't deside between this seven (with DR I normally use 4 Medium-, 3 Mech- and 2 SPA Divisons, therefore no extra support-ART):
  • pioneer (extra speed)
  • hospital (most battles)
  • recon
  • maintenance (expensive equipment)
  • logistics (heavy supply demand)
  • communication
  • AA

5. Recon-Planes:

...what do they do?
...worth building them?
...how do you use them?

5. Recon-Planes:

...what do they do?
...worth building them?
...how do you use them?

1.
Cav for Cavalry and Infantry due to not using any fuel (if you want a recon unit in them that is)
Armored recon for tank divisions and maybe motorized or marine divisions, as they provide a decent amount of breakthrough (if you have enough light tanks)
Motorized recon if you want to have recon on your mot-divisions but don't have enough light tanks
AC for the off-map garrison units or maybe as cheaper replacement for armored recon

2. Those were around from the beginning, nothing has really changed about them
The lighter they are, the cheaper they are to produce, and the faster they move. So any division that relies on speed should not use anything that drags down the speed. The heavier you go, the more armor do you get, the higher the attack value, and the fewer you need for a unit.

3. Never heard about them being bugged in the first place. I never use them, but they allow a unit to come into a battle much quicker than possible without it

4. I put support-art on almost everything. There isn't really much of a reason not to. You rarely get that much firepower out of so little production.
Beyond that, engineers/pioneers are a given. I mostly use logistics and AA as well. The last spot tends to go to armored recon, due to the speed bonus and additional breakthrough. Though I have also used maintenance as well. Hospital isn't all that useful, unless you are really short of manpower. Others might use the signal unit due to bringing your armor into battle more quickly.

5. They give you recon/intelligence. Yes, you do build them, one factory should generally be enough. Put them in small groups (20 or so) and put them in air regions you fight in.

1. Recon is tough it depends on what you want to do with your tactics and early production capacity.
- Cav is the cheapest and has the lowest speed mods
- Mot offers 20 or so extra defense and uses a moderate amount of fuel. (real good for desert @ 20% speed) 1.5 recon costs extra 10 supply units
- AC has good speed mods, some breakthrough, tiny amount of armor for them pesky colonial units and base 2 recon uses the lest fuel
- Armor has the best blanket movement @ 10% great for early game before divisions get high piercing uses the most fuel

The theater your fighting in is a factor, like trucks for Africa divisions, your tactics also play a big role, for instance if you want to overrun and encircle Cav may not be a good choice (and that maintenance support). If your into just pushing and keeping enemy troops around for their equipment Cav might be a good idea. Also consider the amount of troops your choosing for the support type, Light tanks for your main division type could be a problem if you don't have plenty of fuel, steel and military factories. A pushing tactic could also allow room for that support artillery.

2. I agree with George...

3. Latest video I saw the signal company as being an important part of a tank breakthrough.

typing too slow. soo yeah, what George said...;)

My - maybe outdated - take on Recon:
  • Having more Recon is not worth it. See: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/reconnaissance-company-test.1397421/
  • The point of the Recon support company is the added speed for fast Divisions. That means I only give them to my best Tanks.
  • I use Motorized Recon, because then I dont have to bother with Light Tanks. Armored Cars or Cavalry would slow the Division down due to low speed. (I'm not researching or producing faster Armored Cars...)
  • Using Light Tanks instead of Motorized wouldn't give my Tank divison much better stats.
  • I only research the first tier of Recon support company, because the others dont give more speed.
Am I doing it wrong?
