Question on leader skill - Trickster

Has anyone seen the effect of surprise work for a trickster general? I was playing around last night and couldn't find a single leader with the skill who could get the modifier for surprise which used to happen.

Just me being dim and unlucky or has it been changed?

It's my understanding that surprise happens very rarely in land combat (some claim that it never happens)... it would take a very large set of samples to be sure, depending on just how rare (or non-existent) it actually is...

I had it once with Garcia Valino from spain, very very cool crushed a larger army easily wiht the +30pc combat modifier for the whole battle.
