Question - No mechs?

My first time playing CORE (HOI for some time though). I started as Germany but appear to be unable to create Mech units (just don't appear in unit window). I have Basic Halftrack as expected for a German start, but they just don't appear. I notice that no other countries have them either. Do Mechs not appear in CORE or am I doing something daft? Am using CORE 0.71.

IIRC you need Mechanized HQ's tech.

You need the 'Basic Tanks' gold tech as well.
