That sucks big time, but I would hope that at least *some* of the people who are downloading the pirated version will buy the CDs. I mean, EUII was so good that I bought two copies and gave one to a friend. If Victoria is as good as it looks like it is, I would hope that people would pay for the game once it's out.

We can all do something.

1) If you know someone pirating a game any game, at least make an effort to explain to them how it is theft.

2) If you know of sites, report them to devs/publishers.

3) If you take downloads of any game you are harming the entire industry. Even a game which might make a fortune for a dev is still not an excuse to steal it. Further, every download encourages hosts to steal more games.

Hmmm... I think it is hard/impossible to kill "Pirates Market"...

Be honest...Who never had a not-original copy of a software? :eek:o

I think it's all on "pirates" mentality... If you "accidentally" make contact with a piratated game and you like it and play it more than a couple of days, then go out, buy a original copy, in order to give the programmers the deserved money (Computer games is one of the less expensive entertainment form... think how much cost a single hour of playing compared to cinema, stadium or everything else...) and then destroy the pirated copy!

Johan if it makes you feel any better, I'll buy a second copy after my pre-order ships. Maybe I'll keep it, or give it as a gift...maybe we can get some other people on the board who are in a financial position to do so, also grab an extra copy.

I want Victoria but I also REALLY want the next Paradox product, so I want to support you guys...

In general yes. Most of cracks are done by changing the enter_game_name_here.exe, which is also changed in every patch. So if you patch, the game is no longer cracked and asks you for a CD or just won't run.

I must be extremely naive on how to aquire these titles, I've never stolen software.

That's what a demo is for.

You support piracy of all games when you download one. Without traffic there will be no piracy.

I give my condolences Johan.

Perhaps it was a little selfish of me thinking of things in the way i did, I see it will hurt you and the people at paradox more than anyone else.

Rest assured, though the army doesn't pay much, I have my copy fully purchased now.

The person that can find a way to make both consumers happy and the devs happy will be a rich person methinks.....

We all want to install the game and play it without the CD....

If not we all would like to make a backup copy.....

if a protection system was available that allowed both or either of these things to exist, then its maker would be quite well off.

Just out of curiosity, Will you be able to find out how these College kids got hold of the game? and in which country did the theft take place?

Yes. The patch program wont see the game installed on your machine (since there is no trace of the game in your registry) and will refuse to install the patch.

Yeah. That's why I'm always a little suspicious about the people I sometimes run across when I want to have a round of multi-player EU who don't have the latest patch.

Same here. After all, if Paradox wouldn't be and we would have to live without these games, a part of my life would be empty. Seriously. Re-living the famous moments of history is a wonderful feeling. Almost orgasmic.
Betatesting or not, I'll also buy CK.

Aside from the fact that this is a distasteful practice and that the appropriate parties should feel legal pressure because of it, is this really something to worry about? Mainstream gamers really aren't interested in games like Victoria; the majority of those who are interested are presumably Paradox devotees who will be purchasing a legitimate copy. On the one site that I saw Victoria available, it was getting somewhat less than 5% of the traffic that the mainstream releases were. Thankfully or not, most of the cash-strapped teenagers who seem to make up the majority of the pirate 'market' don't care about complex strategy games.

But I agree with the replies above that state Victoria needs to reach stores as soon as possible. Had the game been made available by pirate groups on release day, I doubt it would have caused any sort of stir: Paradox fans recognize the need to support the company, because no one else in the industry is doing anything like this. However, with commercial release at least some weeks into the future, it's hard for any of us not to be tempted. If any forum habitués do pick up the game, I trust that they'll still do right by Paradox and purchase a legal copy when it becomes available.

Just out of curiosity, Will you be able to find out how these College kids got hold of the game? and in which country did the theft take place?

So far, I've seen the game being circulated by two different pirate groups. Whether this means that multiple copies were leaked or not, I don't know.

I want to ask everyone on this forum to NOT pay the theif a single cent!!!. I know it's hard when you want a game bad and know there is a way to get it, but please re-read the AAR's (maybe Paradox can post more?) plan what you're going to do in your first game......but please wait.

Giving money to these types of people just makes them do it more.

Hold back please.

Cheers, Ice

I'd probably delete that post if I were you, General. Even though it doesn't mention the site, it's probably best for all of us to avoid mentioning where Victoria is available; that's just going to get the thread locked.

If you know which institution the pirates are running from but not their exact identities, you can put the heat on the Administration of the college or whatever to help you find them. When I lived on campus the admins cracked down hard on bootleg movies & music on the college network for fear of being sued (wasn't popular, but it needed to be done.)

the most stupid thing u can do is to down load victoria, becuse
the first version it´s always lots of bugs on. if u down load a patch u ned a crack, not so easy to find, the manual can be to mutch help, u aint cot that if u download the game.
If u have played EU1,2 and HoI u know that victoria will be a god game. Buy IT!!!!!!!!!

some games are worth to buy. I mean if u havent played any demo and if it got like 70% in PC-gammer it is not worth to buy.
for example Mede of Honer is worth to buy ore Vietcong but not Ghost master.

ohh, if u cot money buy call of duty.

Don't be so foolish Bernadotte.

As stated before, if you actually download a game it gives them traffic....no traffic....no pirating.

I swear i won't go anywhere near one of these sites. And if anyone tries offering me a copy that is pirated he will lose his nuts.

I can only ask everyone here not to download Victoria, or accept a pirated copy, if you do, then realise that you are certainly helping to put nails in Paradoxes Coffin.

So if you honestly enjoy these games that paradox make, do yourself a favour and DO NOT pirate their games, It will make sure they survive and continue making games that we enjoy and love.

This isn't an EA game, this isn't some company that rips you off and gives you canned responses when ur having trouble.

This is a company that makes great games, and unique games...labour of love games.

As stated, if you enjoy these games, then please refrain from downloading.....hopefully the pirates will not even bother with paradox games in the future if hardly anyone downloads them.

Its all up to you people now.
