Question for Paradox.

Hello Paradoxians.

I have just heard that Vicky has been pirated.

First of all, is this true?

If yes, how did this happen?

Sorry about the abruptness, but im pretty pissed off about this, especially as i am paying top dollar and some Complete !##$@$!$$!$$!!@#!@## has gotten, apparently, a gold version before the game has even reached distributors.

Even if it has been pirated - I will be still paying for a copy "clean" copy.

This is the only way to support designers of games rather than to support some complete theif!.

Apparently so, at least according to Patric. There is a thread around here were he says it was a leaked press copy. (Can't find the thread at the moment, but it is around here somewhere).

I know someone that works for SF that already has the game in his hands and has told me all the juicey info so i'm not suprised the warez sceen already has the game at all....

Going gold means the gold version is sent to distributors, and both happened at the same time a few weeks ago.

If I were Paradox - I would RUSH this game out ASAP - push Stratergy First to really move on this.

They just did Chrome in 9 days from Gold so it is possible.

Only a suggestion Paradox it is up to you of course.

The game sooner would be nice....but I'm really thinking of "killing" the market for the Pirates - which is usually at it's best before the product is out. People are more suseptable when they are waiting to get something they really want.

I will be waiting - even though I don't want to have to, but I may be in a minority, I hope not, but who knows.

So get it out fast and you will hurt any pirate sales.

Johan I really feel for you here - my company went through this too.

I'd REALLY rush Victoria out - most people want to do the right thing - and this will empower them to do so.

I'll be waiting anyway and most of you're loyal fans will, but this is my advice.

I don't understand what is the problem. Paradox games are always unbalanced or unplayable when they are released. If they really want to enjoy the game and play MP games they'll need the patches and so a legal copy of the game.

This sucks, but there is not much to be done about it now. Some sales will be lost but Paradox has plenty of dedicated fans who will be buying a copy soon. Also, the average PC gamer is only at most vaguely aware of Victoria. Their first real introduction to the game will be when they see it on a store shelf.


All in all, the publicity gained from distributing press copies of the game probably outweighs the sales lost to pirating.

You mentioned in the off-topic thread that you knew the pirates were college students, are you able to track them down and charge them? Thats the only way to stop this sort of thing from happening (their 'free' software should wind up costing them hundreds of thousands in fines and being passed around prison like currency)
