Question : Could this be used as GM vs Players 'thing' to be used as a pen and paper aid?

Pretty self explanatory really. If a GM and a bunch of players all had the game, 'could' the GM set up a bunch of missions say, or even random generate them within certain criteria, and roleplay as a custom strength perhaps not balanced force, against a lance of player controlled mechs/armour assets/whatever? Like is there a GM vs PC's mode? Could there also be an option so only the players have FoW? Or so the GM can just 'suddenly' burst stuff outta nowhere for cool sake.

Cause that could make for a super sweet table top combo. Have the pen and paper stuff on roll20 or what have you for simulating the universe and person scale shenanigans, etc, then when its time for stompy stompy pew pews, everyone alt tabs into their battletech client, n updates their mech to whatever condition is on the player sheet, bla bla bla, GM quickly sets up some dudes for them to pew pew, bla bla bla. Dude that'd be SWEET. I'm playing a game of 5e and a game of shadowrun through roll20, I'd jump into a game of battletech NO WORRIES. Growing up I heard so many cool stories of my brother playing battletech pen n paper, bla bla bla.

I'll stop yammering on now. <3 U BAI.

Yours are terrific ideas, but unfortunately beyond the scope of what BATTLETECH will be at Launch.

Though you are not alone in hoping such functionality someday becomes a reality... perhaps with a year's worth of updates and theinvaluable help of our stellar Modding Community! : ) We'll see.

There have been a couple of efforts along this line with the Beta. MekHQ still seems to be the best tool right now.

If you use this game as a BT aid, you won't really be playing the TT version of BT. Not only have some values been changed like AC damage, but some mechanics have been added like stability and firing penalties after standing up. It still has the feel of TT BT, but it's not the same game.

If all you ever want to do in the HBS game is skirmishes, then yeah you could absolutely use it as a combat simulator for your external campaign. There are already people doing this; there was a post by Phros in the "How are you coping with the wait?" thread on the old forum's saying "I made a custom merc Let's Play campaign using MEKHQ and then importing mechs (with damage etc) in and out of the backer beta. It's keeping me going for now."

I know of a few people using the beta to run campaigns. it is entirely doable, but it is a lot of work because you have to custom track the damage outside of the game and then custom making the variants in a text editor to to run the next battle

When the game is out in full and people can use the MechLab to change loadout it will be much easier, but still be a bit of work.
