Question about the Sejm

Is it possible to get a PU over both Poland and Lithuania by getting your Dynasty elected and claiming the throne?
In theory, if your Dynasty is on the throne, but the Polish dynasty is the expected heir (probably the case right after a succession), their heir would have a weak claim. So could you then claim the throne a declare a war to install a personal union, and get Lithuania as a free bonus?

Haven't had a chance to try this yet, as the setup seems kinda lengthy, just wondering if anyone knew off-hand?

Can't claim throne on elective monarchy.

What you can do is claiming the throne before it becomes an elective monarchy, and declare war for that. Easiest done as Lithuania, but possible as nations like Bohemia as well. I'm not sure if the PU lasts after they become elective, though.

If Poland decides to overthrow Sejm (event after 1600), you can do that. However, I have no experience how often AI does that.

If you get the events to eject the Sejm and turn into a regular monarchy again, whichever dynasty is on the throne during the events will be your new dynasty. For my commonwealth game this happened to be the HapsburGA. Unfortunately, Austria was weak and not worth forcing a pu on.

A related question: I always seem to be outvoted by German Minors like Anhalt when trying to install my dynasty in Poland. What else do you need besides high relations and marriages?

Your own candidate has better stats on average (2+d4) compared to foreign candidates (1+d4). With AoW you can use papal influence to get more legitimacy after coronation to overcome problems due to weak claim.

Depends on whether you want to snag some Unions around the place. If you don't then stick with the local noble.

Generally better to have your own dynasty, unless you want to force a PU on someone or an exceptionally talented foreign candidate comes along. If your current king is old and an undesirable foreign candidate is threatening to take over, you should spend legitimacy liberally to protect the succession. The new king won't inherit any of your current legitimacy, so there is no point in trying to build up legitimacy over the long term like you would with a normal monarchy. Legitimacy for the elective monarchy doesn't mean what it does for normal monarchies: it doesn't represent the rightfulness of your king's claim, it solely represents the fact that the Polish magnates hate being ruled by one of their own (someone with the local knowledge and clout to actually rein them in) and love being 'ruled' by a negligent foreigner who probably won't even bother to spend much time in Poland.

Beware though that if you have Polish culture, you'll start getting bad events as soon as you elect a candidate with less than 2 points in any category (necessarily a foreigner, because local candidates always have 2+ in everything). If you culture-shift away from Polish though, you are safe (for the moment - no doubt this will be 'fixed' in a future version).
