Question about the Icelandic Althing and CK2

Hey there, I'm trying to go for a 14-holding Iceland, and I'm wondering whether I should go feudal or republic to better simulate the Icelandic Commonwealth. I'm a little torn, because I think parts of each work here, although the "merchant" part of merchant republics is not at all related. I am sort of thinking that more than the feudal/republic differences, the most accurate representation in game would be to have the council vote on everything. Thoughts?

Best compromise that comes to mind is max council authority with elective monarchy.

That's the conclusion I am coming to as well, but I just love rolling in all the money from republics.
