Question about the 1.07b patch

Hi there,

Just a quick question concerning the latest 1.07b patch (may11):

We have tried to do a quick mp (me as England, Zsolo as France) to settle an old argument of other players from our clan (whether a human controlled France had any chance at all to sue for a white peace in the first war (starting from 1419) against a human controlled England or not, BTW I do believe it does have a realistic chance).

Anyhow, we both had the latest version installed, only a couple of months into the game strange things started to happen, indicating that our patches were not compatible. (although we both had the 1.07 b. may 11 written on the screen)

So here is my Q:
Does it matter whether he had an NA version and me the UK version, before installing the latest beta? I gather that you need to have a clean 1.07 installed and after that You just install the latest beta, no matter what 1.07 version (NA, UK, etc.) You had previously.

Any confirmation on this?

Not sure, we've never had any problems and have mixed USA/European versions before.

Regarding your experiment, I think it is only possible for France to get a WP if England makes a mistake. That is quite possible, but if England plays a perfect game I don't think France can win. I'm still curious about it myself though, and want to try it again sometime.

Publisher should not matter. Are you sure one of you had not made some "edits" to the files.

Yup, we have both made clean installations before starting to play. I do not know why it went wrong????

What kinds of strange things? I'm guessing the game still runs (no CTDs?) but just some asynchronicities? How about an example?

Sure, if the person controlling England plays a perfect game than it is almost impossible to make a draw. However, I do believe that there is also a time factor, and time IMHO is surely on the side of the french. There is no major province in the posession of England on the continent, thus the max. army it can build in a provine is about 5k, whereas the french has the option to recruit almost his entire manpower pool from several provinces, Isle de France, Lyon, etc.. As the English force march on to kill of the remaining french troops (who obviously nned to retreat whenever they can) they will surely be hard hit by attrition, and they will also suffer from combats with french allies on the way. Thus, after a few months into the game english forces will be decimated, and need to be reinforced from England (that is costly a time-consuming). The french on the other hand can reinforce from where he wants to, thus practically he can outmanouver the english easily. My point is, that if the french is able to maintain a sizeable army (around 10k), and is able to reinforce it with another 10-15k than the match is even. Besides, England needs to keep an eye on controlling as many french provinces as possible, and to kill of the french troops. This is not at all easy.


My 2 cents.

BTW, this whole England vs France question came up a long time ago, and we simply could not really answer the original question which we have posed ourselves: What countries are the obvious choices if there are 4 or 5 human players. We are trying to make it as balanced as possible. And the key question is of course: should there be a human France. For the time being we have sticked to France, England, Austria, Sweden and Turkey. Any different ideas???

Ok, how about his dilplo ledger saying we are at peace, whereas mine says we are still at war, and he can go and siege my provinces, I automatically receive my peace offers back as refused (that I have previously sent to him) although he never even received any of them, etc..

I think these are typical problems of compatibility
